Chapter 41: Making a choice.

They sat in silence, each one waiting for the other to speak. It would be easy, Lilith noted, to just pounce on Willow right now, to take her, to make her a vampire. It wouldn’t take very long, not even ten seconds, to dig her fangs into Willow’s neck to start the process.

And yet, the idea didn’t sit right with her. Even thinking about it was like someone had latched a rusty lock onto her heart. Was it a line she wasn’t brave enough to cross, or a standard she didn’t want to break?

“Say something,” Lilith said finally. “Anything.”

“What do you want me to say?” Willow replied, and at that, Lilith had no answer.

“I just…can’t stand the silence,” Lilith answered. “I…I never wanted this to happen.”

“I can’t imagine why,” Willow returned.

“…Can you, at least, tell me a reason for why you don’t want to be a vampire?”

Willow shrugged. “Can’t go out into the sun, and while I love your pale skin, I worked hard to get this tan and I—”
