Completing the Final Trial
Elder Leader Yu Haixian laughed as he said to Elder Leader Huo Tianba, "Senior Brother Tianba, did you see that? That Ye Fan is actually quite smart and sneaky by hiding himself so that he can ambush only the injured candidates."
Hmph!" Fairy Xuan Xueqi interrupted softly by humming coldly. "That is only because he is weak."

Yu Haixian laughed weakly, "This isn't fair to him when we can see how she has tricked that Lin Yingxiong to enter the jade sword last so that they can be paired off to fight with each other. That Lin Yingxiong got killed because he thought that it was a friendly spar with Chen Yuyan and the loser shall have the chance to enter the exit portal."
"Obviously, that Maiden Chen Yuyan is smarter than him." Fairy Xuan Xueqi snorted as she moved her beautiful form, inviting a second look from Yu Haixian and Huo Tianba as they admired her body in secret.

Ye Fan and Chen Yuyan repeated their ambush 2 more times, killing 1 more silver badge and 2 bronze badges.
There were 1 silver badge and 1 bronze on one time and 1 bronze badge another time.
Ye Fan took the silver badge while he allowed Chen Yuyan to take the bronze badge while assisting her to take down another bronze badge.
Altogether Ye Fan now had 22 Points and Chen Yuyan had 10 Points.
After Ye Fan's first fight with a gold badge candidate, he now completely avoided the other gold badge candidates; it was because it was not easy to take one down and they were much stronger than a silver badge either because they were more ruthless or more quick thinking.
Of course, there may be some gold badge candidates that were lucky enough to pair off with a weak opponent and they may be weak as well but this possibility was actually quite low and Ye Fan was not betting his life on this.
Time quickly passed and the 3 hours were almost up.
But Ye Fan could find no opportunity for an attack and he was getting anxious now.
Even Chen Yuyan was looking anxious as she had only 10 Points and she was unsure if she can even get a place among the 30 outer court protégés.
She whispered to Ye Fan, "Maybe we should go and find some targets?"
Ye Fan however shook his head and whispered, "In this final hour, many of the candidates are more cautious now, especially with so many candidates that are disappearing. In fact, the smarter ones will be like us and they may have already picked an ambush point to wait rather than fight recklessly…"
Then he added with a soft sigh, "None of the survivors at the final hour are simpletons and the impatience ones will be the food for them instead. We can only wait!"
Chen Yuyan nodded reluctantly but Ye Fan's words made sense to her.
While waiting, she rested her head on Ye Fan's shoulder.
Ye Fan was quite startled and he was a little flustered; this was the very first time a maiden had rested herself on his shoulder and he could feel her fragrant softness…

Huo Tianba was actually the acting branch leader too so he was also the highest authority leader here.
"Candidates between 3 Points and 9 Points are qualified to become our outer court proteges. These are your names. Step forward when your names are called out…"
Among them was Jin Yizhong.
The most stunned look was actually Chen Yuyan.
It was because she did not expect that her puny 10 points would qualify her for an inner court protégé!
This was beyond her wildest dream!
Even Ye Fan was quite surprised but then he quickly composed himself as he thought: Some of the gold badges must get killed fighting one another and they were in turn killed by the others. That is the reason why the Points are constantly diminishing.
Huo Tianba announced next, "Candidates between 10 Points and 33 Points are those that qualified to be an inner court protégé…"
"They are Chen Yuyan… Ye Fan…"
Ye Fan was now bursting with emotions as he was finally selected to be an inner court protégé again after 3 years.
He saw that he got only 22 Points and he was not the top candidate this time round but that was perfect alright with him.
Unknown to him, he actually got in the second place.
As for first place, it was occupied by Wang Meng who was more ruthless and stronger than anyone else. Moreover, he was an outer court protégé too and now he finally had the chance to be an inner court protégé.
Chen Yuyan on the other hand had burst into tears; she had never thought that she may be one of the eight chosen inner protégés.
She was suddenly looking at Ye Fan with a new light…
She discreetly took a look at the other 7 candidates that were selected to be an inner court protégé and saw that she was the only bronze badge candidate. There was also 1 silver badge candidate. As for the rest, they were all gold badge candidates.
Out of these 6 gold badge candidates, 4 were actually existing outer court protégés as evidenced by their robes.
Another 20 gold badge candidates were among those that were selected as outer court proteges.
Almost half of the gold badge candidates had actually died during the trial. As for the silver and bronze badges, they were mostly feeders for the gold badges candidates and a greater number of them had perished.
Chen Yuyan shivered to think that this may be her fate.
Huo Tianba announced again with a broad grin, "Now it is time for us to select our core protégés…"
As he said that, he was also looking at Yu Haixian and Fairy Xuan Xueqi.
