Chapter 39: I Am the Murderer Aboard the Leviathan

Ana

Ana stood there frozen as her fresh blood trickled down her cheeks.

"You should take responsibility for what you did!" The man growled at her, his eyes that were brimming with rage now shed tears as his mouth quivered with every word.

Ana trembled at the sight. Not out of fear but out of guilt. At the sorrow and grief, her actions unknowingly caused. She had always been convinced she was killing 'for the greater good,' and that the people she killed were deserving of death.

The words she so desperately wished to convey remained trapped within her throat, entangled with the myriad emotions that churned within her. She yearned to apologize, to undo the harm she had caused, but the weight of her wrongdoing held her tongue captive.

Despite the guilt eating at her from within and the tears threatening to fall, she stood her ground as she stared straight into the man's eyes.
