Edwards gripped the steering wheel with one hand, his other hand tapping rhythmically to the beat of the music blasting through the car's speakers. The city was alive with the buzz of evening traffic, headlights flickering like restless fireflies against the darkening sky. He glanced at the clock on the dashboard; it was past eight, and he needed to get to the venue on time. He pressed the gas pedal a little harder, weaving through the sea of cars with the practiced ease of someone who had done this a thousand times before.
Then, out of nowhere, a car appeared in his peripheral vision, speeding recklessly through the intersection. Edwards barely had time to react. The oncoming vehicle, clearly struggling with failing brakes, veered wildly into his lane. Instinct kicked in, and Edwards slammed his foot on the brake, yanking the wheel to reverse. The tires screeched in protest, the sudden motion sending his car into a spin.
