Chapter 254

"Wolf-tribe beastkin? She probably isn't talking about Freya, right?" The fox beastkin whispered.

"..." Karl's expression was uncertain. Wolf-tribe beastkins were rare to see nowadays, which made him feel uneasy. If Freya had already been captured ahead of time, wouldn't their efforts have been in vain?

"Do you recognize the two people ahead?" Karl asked with a neutral expression.

"I know them." The fox beastkin quickly replied. "The human is called Nicole, one of the assistants to the Lord of Sedona City; and the rabbit-tribe beastkin is named Helen, she's a teacher in Sedona City."

The fox beastkin had been in Sedona City for the past seven days collecting intelligence, which had kept him lingering.

"Oh? An assistant? A teacher?" Karl raised an eyebrow, surprised that Sedona City would let beastkins serve as teachers.

Hearing that Nicole was the city lord's assistant made Karl even more uneasy. He muttered to himself, "I hope they're not here to capture Freya."

No wonder Karl was worried. Now, they only had seven people left. If they faced off against a horse bandit group, they wouldn't necessarily be able to handle it unless they went back for reinforcements…

Step, step, step...

Suddenly, four or five patrolling guards ran over from a distance, with the leader being Andrew. His face was serious and stern.

"Everyone, be alert. If you spot any suspicious people, arrest them immediately. They might be from the Swiftwind Bandit Group," Andrew ordered in a low, stern voice.

"Yes!"

The patrolling guards quickly ran past, stopping for a moment to eye Karl and his group, giving them a scare. They thought they might be mistaken for suspects and taken to the Guard Division.

"My lord, is this Swiftwind Bandit Group really that strong? I've never heard of them." The fox beastkin asked in confusion.

"I've never heard of them either. Maybe they're bandits from another area who have wandered here. In winter, bandits like those are usually on the move, looting as they go." Karl analyzed.

"Freya is really annoying. Why can't she just let us catch her without all this trouble?" The pig-tribe beastkin grumbled while fanning his large ears.

"Stop talking nonsense!" Karl rolled his eyes and slapped the pig-tribe beastkin on the ear. Annoyed, he continued, "Do you think Freya is just anyone? She's a knight trained in the royal palace from a young age."

"My lord, what should we do now?" The fox beastkin asked, noticing that it was almost getting dark.

"Rest for the night. Tomorrow, we'll begin investigating in secret, especially around the city gates. Keep a close eye on them. Now that the snow has stopped, we can't let Freya slip away." Karl ordered sternly.

"Understood!"

That night, Karl tossed and turned, unable to sleep. By the time he finally managed to fall asleep around two or three in the morning, the conversation between Nicole and Helen, as well as the nervous actions of the patrol guards, filled him with an inexplicable sense of urgency.

Before the sky had fully brightened, with only the faintest light creeping in, Karl suddenly woke up. He had dreamt that Freya had been captured by the Swiftwind Bandit Group, and they had returned to face Prince Santner, who, in his fury, dragged them out and beheaded them.

"No, Freya absolutely can't be captured by anyone else."

Karl broke out in a cold sweat and immediately woke everyone up in the room. "Get up quickly! No more sleeping in. If we don't catch Freya, we'll be lucky to even make it out alive!"

The others quickly got up, tidied up, and rushed out. They were staying at an inn.

In the winter morning, the cold wind pierced through their clothes, making Karl and his six companions shiver as they left the warmth of their rooms.

"Hurry, go guard the city gates, don't let Freya escape," Karl urged the fox beastkin. Today, it was his turn to guard the gates.

"Wait...!"

The fox beastkin had just taken a couple of steps when he suddenly froze, staring in shock at a figure running quickly in the distance. Ember hair? That was definitely Freya!

"What are we waiting for..." Karl impatiently turned around, only to see Freya sprinting towards the city gates.

"Quick..." Before Karl could even shout, he saw two masked figures running behind her, keeping a distance, but clearly following her as they all headed for the city gates.

"This..." The fox beastkin was stunned for a moment, then turned to Karl, his voice filled with uncertainty, "Lord, it seems Freya is being targeted by someone else."

"It must be the Swiftwind Bandit Group!" Karl said coldly, waving his hand. "Let's go! Freya cannot fall into anyone else's hands. At the very least, we need to get the map."

The seven of them immediately ran towards the gates of Sedona City. If the treasure map ended up in someone else's hands, they would have no way to return but death.

After they left, Mina's figure appeared from behind a nearby corner. She covered her mouth as she yawned, then said, "Freya, let's see how well you perform this time."

Mina swayed her hips as she headed back to the castle. She needed to report the progress to Annie, and then she could give orders to Aiden. They should be ready to set out soon.

At this moment, Lucas was still comfortably tucked in his warm bed. He had stayed up late teaching Freya how to act until 2 AM, and now it was 5 AM. Most people were still deep in their sleep!

…..

Soon, Karl and his team reached the outskirts of the city, but they had lost sight of their target. All they could see were the footprints left in the snow.

"Follow the footprints!" Karl said coldly, stepping forward in pursuit.

"Yes!"

They chased for two hours, with the sun beginning to rise on the horizon, casting a faint glow in the sky. The weather was much better today, no longer just a vast expanse of white.

Meanwhile, Freya and the War Wolves, led by Chris, were waiting not far off. They kept moving their arms and legs to avoid getting stiff from the cold.

"How much longer until they arrive?" Freya asked, turning to Chris.

"Almost there, everyone get ready."

Chris, holding a binocular, observed the distance between Karl and their group. This "binocular" was a special tool sent by the city lord the night before. Chris was the only one who knew that after this mission, the binoculars would have to be returned in full.

"They're here, get ready!" Chris said in a low voice. He carefully packed away the binoculars, then turned to the others, giving them a serious instruction. "Remember, leave the two leading ones alive. Let them escape back."

"Understood!"

"Start!"

Chris and the others immediately covered their faces with cloths and drew out their one-handed knight swords. This time, they used the standard swords instead of the special ones, deliberately not wanting to reveal their identities. After all, they were a symbol of Sedona City.

"Beastkin, surrender quietly!"

Chris and his team surrounded Freya, adopting menacing expressions and harsh tones.

"Hand over the map, or you'll regret it!"

Freya was momentarily taken aback by their acting skills. She also shouted back in a fierce tone, "Dream on! Who are you?"

Her voice immediately caught the attention of Karl and the others, who rushed toward Chris and his team's position.
