By the time Freya returned to the castle, it was already past nine in the morning. Lucas had finished his morning routine, had breakfast, and was now in his study reviewing administrative matters.
Knock knock knock!
Freya knocked on the door, and after receiving permission, she pushed it open and entered.
Creek!
"Good work," Lucas put down his pen, clasped his hands together, and softly asked, "Did the War Wolves head out?"
"Yes, they've already caught up," Freya shook her head. She didn't feel tired at all, though there was still a bit of ketchup on her cheek.
"Go have breakfast, take a shower, and then get some rest," Lucas said gently.
"Yes!" Freya nodded, then gave a greeting to Annie, who was working nearby, before leaving the study.
She had already started to adapt to the rhythm of life here. From being a little stubborn at first to slowly letting go and adjusting, it only took a week, and she herself found it quite unbelievable. It felt almost like some kind of magic was urging her to change.
As Freya walked, she thought about what breakfast might be today. Maybe steamed buns? Or perhaps braised spare ribs? Those meat dishes with bones were always so delicious.
Creek!
The door was closed again, and Lucas stared at the study room door for a moment before turning to Annie and asking, "Has the military and political department been ordered to depart this morning?"
The real challenge they were facing would come in two days—the encirclement and escorting the slaves.
"It has already been ordered. Around eight o'clock, they should have set sail by now." Annie replied, shaking her wrist slightly, which was sore from too much writing.
"Tell Max to prepare housing for a thousand people. If there aren't enough houses, have the old ones tidied up. As long as they can make it through this winter, there will be new houses next year." Lucas's dark eyes flickered.
"Understood!" Annie picked up a ballpoint pen and began writing.
When Annie finished and sealed the paper into an oil paper bag, she looked up to see Lucas standing right in front of her, which made her feel a bit confused.
"Let's go! Come with me to do something profitable." Lucas said with a slight smile at the corner of his mouth.
"Okay!" Annie tilted her head, her brown eyes crescent-shaped, and she obediently stood up, following Lucas.
As the two of them stepped out of the study room, they saw Nicole holding a tray with three steaming cups of coffee and some biscuits and snacks.
"Eh? Young master, where are you going?" Nicole asked curiously.
"The young master is going to do something profitable." Annie replied with a bright smile.
"This..." Nicole slightly parted her lips, looking down at the coffee in her hands.
"Come along, bring the coffee too." Lucas said gently.
"Mm-hmm!" Nicole smiled sweetly.
After returning this morning, Mina had eaten breakfast and gone to the Guard Division. She was very interested in the Black Iris organization's signal for transmitting messages, and she wanted to learn more about it.
Lucas didn't stop her. It was a good thing when someone wanted to learn. Even though Lucas could offer more advanced methods of transmitting signals, it wouldn't hurt to understand the methods used by other factions.
The three of them walked into a spacious room in the castle, where several shelves were lined with various bottles and jars. Nicole and Annie knew this room well. It was the room the young master had named the laboratory.
The laboratory was a special place within the castle, typically only accessible to Lucas. No one knew exactly what he was working on inside, not even Nicole, Annie, or Mina, who only had a vague idea.
This time, however, Lucas brought the two of them inside, which greatly surprised them. They were finally going to see what was inside.
The two of them looked around, peering at the various bottles and jars, but aside from those, there was little else to see.
"Young master, what are you doing here to make money?" Annie asked curiously.
"What do you think is the most profitable?" Lucas responded with a question.
"Selling wheat is the most profitable," Annie answered after a moment of thought. "And it's a guaranteed profit, always making money."
"I think it's hemp fabric. Everyone needs clothes." Nicole said, placing the tray on the table.
Lucas smiled slightly, not yet offering an opinion. He then asked, "So, who has the easiest money to make? The one who earns the most?"
"Uh..." Annie and Nicole exchanged glances, unsure. This question truly stumped them.
"Talking about nobles, it's hard to even get them to buy something unless it's forced. Talking about merchants, they're all a bunch of cunning people. Talking about commoners, well, they're barely scraping by, with no extra money to spare."
Lucas's lips curled into a faint smile as he casually said, "The easiest money to make is from women, especially noblewomen."
The two women paused for a moment and then realized he was right. Those noblewomen, when they saw beautiful jewelry or clothing, didn't care if it was expensive—they just bought it if it was suitable.
"You're right!" Nicole nodded in agreement.
"Uh..." Annie scratched her cheek, feeling like Lucas was talking about her. The fox-eared girl recalled how excited she got when she bought things. If she liked something, she simply bought it.
If there was anyone among the beast-eared women with the biggest spending habits, Annie would definitely be first on the list. She had a hobby of collecting things, especially lollipops.
In her room, there was a special cabinet filled with lollipops, many of which were limited edition and no longer produced.
"So, what do noblewomen want most these days? Do you know?" Lucas glanced at the slightly embarrassed fox-eared girl and said faintly, "And don't say lollipops!"
"Uh..." Annie rolled her eyes at him playfully. She really did want to say lollipops.
"Noblewomen?" Nicole furrowed her brow as she thought. Her gray eyes suddenly brightened, and she quickly exclaimed, "It's perfume! Noblewomen love perfume the most!"
Nicole remembered a passage from Princess Lucy's "Noble Girls' Love Notes," which stated that if a knight wanted to pursue a noble girl, he should give her a bottle of perfume, as it would immediately win fifty percent of her favor.
This demonstrated the obsession and longing noble women had for perfume. Nicole also knew that the only place in the Kingdom of Siacan that produced perfume was in the royal capital, and the production was often limited. As soon as it hit the market, it would be snatched up—no, it was pre-ordered, with rumors that the waiting list stretched three years into the future.
"That's right, it's perfume," Lucas raised an eyebrow, a bit surprised as he glanced at Nicole. She had guessed correctly.
"Wow? Master, you're going to make perfume?" Annie's eyes sparkled. Back in the palace, she had used perfume, which her mother had given her.
"Yes. Some of the flowers in the castle's greenhouse shouldn't go to waste. We can try making some perfume with them." Lucas said softly.
"Flowers? We can make perfume with flowers?" Nicole pulled out her notebook. To her, perfume was like a legendary item, something she had never thought she could make herself.
