As soon as Bella Scott finished speaking, she covered her big mouth.
When they were little, Edward Anderson always made her memorize ancient texts. Whenever she couldn't recite them and was afraid of being punished, she would say she liked him and that he was the best person in the world. Each time she tried to please him like this, he would let her off.
But now they were grown up, and Edward wouldn't fall for that trick anymore. This tactic wouldn't work.
Edward's eyes half-closed, looking at Bella Scott with a teasing smile. He asked lightly, "What did you just say, Bella?"
"I didn't say anything." Bella Scott pretended to be confused.
Such words were harmless when she was little, but now they were too ambiguous.
Edward stared at Bella Scott for a while before saying, "I'll let it slide this time, but if there's a next time, you'll eat this book!"
Bella nodded vigorously, "There won't be a next time. Does that mean I won't have to go to jail as long as you're protecting me?"
