After a pause, she continued: "Let's clear things up today. Charles, my past feelings for you were never romantic. I thought you were warm, and your smile was comforting, so I mistook that for love."
But in reality, she loved Edward Anderson all along, she just forgot her feelings for him.
Charles chuckled bitterly at her words: "So, you're not only rejecting my marriage proposal, but also denying the feelings you once had for me. You're really heartless."
