That night, Kaila Nelson slept restlessly, and Edward Anderson couldn't sleep either. They both lay with their eyes wide open until dawn.
Jessica Scott didn't have the complicated worries of the adults.
Not much time had passed since she last saw her mother, and she wanted to be held and hugged by her again. No matter how good her dad was, he couldn't compare to her mom.
Seeing Jessica Scott sighing after breakfast, Kaila lightly pinched her face and asked, "What are you thinking about?"
"I miss my mom so much, I want to die!" Jessica rolled on the sofa and groaned.
"The mom you're talking about isn't your future stepmom, is it?" Kaila had a sudden thought and wondered if that might be the case.
Jessica wanted to say that her mom was her mom, where was the stepmom coming from? But Aunt Kaila wouldn't understand anyway.
If only she were a little ghost, she could see her mom whenever she wanted. For now, she could only rely on video calls to ease her longing.
