Chapter Forty-Five: Seeds of Mental Illness

Annabeth took me to this old abandoned home just outside of Cape Callows. The only signs of the life the house had were recent footprints in the layer of dust and dirt on the floor. She reached back the moment we had entered the dark half of the home.

It was an odd gesture. As if she was worried I would be afraid in the darkness, but didn’t seem phased when she took me from my home. Once again she seemed to be younger in the mind than she should have been. Almost sheltered.

“Why did you have me grab an overnight bag?” I asked as we walked down the hall. Yellowed wallpaper peeled from the walls at its seams.

“I thought you may want a couple of things that felt familiar,” she sang back at me as if it were a peculiar thing to ask.

I swallowed hard trying to decide if I needed to keep quiet or try to connect with her so I could get more answers. Curiosity had won out.
