Chapter 20: Letters on A Fall Solstice

There were no rumors about her supposed betrayal of the kingdom in the next couple of days, so Elanor was almost certain that Azzoth had truly taken care of the sages and that her secret was still safe.

Still, the false scare had done more than enough to remind her how fragile her current situation was. One small misstep and it’d all come down like a house of cards.

Now, more than ever, Elanor needed to figure out what she was going to do. She had to commit to something. Whether that was her title, her feelings, or her desires.

Time wouldn’t halt for her, and it was hitting her harder now that the seasons were changing. It was more noticeable on the mountains, but the warm summer was turning into autumn.

Around this time, she’d usually send a letter to her family. This would be the first time she didn’t, and it was making her antsy. She’d been late before, but she’d never missed this date before.
