Chapter 32: Chapter Thirty-Two

*Brielle’s POV*

I wait there with baited breath for some kind of response from him. My mind is going a million miles an hour while thinking absolutely nothing at all. My heart has bruised my ribs from the inside. Every breath hurts, tendrils of anxiety stretching across my lungs from the inside as I hope and pray my cousin will see reason.

Why here and now of all times did Leo decide to confront me about this? Did he not realize the importance of what I am trying to do? I am doing what none of the rest of them had dared to do up until this point. Was he really going to make me stop just because he was a little scared?

Finally, Leo sighs and nods again.

“Fine,” he says quietly.

Whatever it was that he saw in my eyes right then and there worked! Whatever it was that he needed to see was there. He believed me, and I kept my word to Jonathan about not sharing that he is an undercover officer with anyone in my family.
