Chapter 22: Malaki Crescent

Twenty-two

Malaki Crescent

Usually, it was rare for us to come home during a school year unless it was a holiday or something. But when I’d talked with my dad on the phone about Iris, he’d insisted. He had called everyone on The Immortals Council right away and told me that I had no choice but to come. He told me to bring my brothers, and Ephram, and tried to convince me to bring Iris. But I told him that wouldn’t be a good idea because she hadn’t technically broken up with her boyfriend yet and didn’t want news being leaked about us.

He admitted that was a good idea, and that was how we were standing at our family cabin each of us hesitating before we went inside.

“Just knock,” Emphram insisted.

“I don’t want to,” I said, “I don’t know what’s going to be inside. Humans and Immortals is a rare combination for mates. I might be opening the door to the apocalypse.”

Milo sighed. “You dragged us out here.”
