Chapter 34: Malaki Crescent

Thirty-four

Malaki Crescent

I got a text from Iris in the late afternoon, telling me I could call off the search party. We looked into Emily Brentwood’s past and had someone from the pack hack into her phone, but it seemed she was at a hotel day drinking. Curious, that she would call up Iris only to call it off. But maybe not if she knew what I knew about her son. I went home, and paced anxiously in my room, waiting for Iris to return. I should have done something but all I could think about was her. Somehow, I knew that she had gone to see James. Or at least to try and find him. Which was something I didn’t like at all.

I was pacing the room when the bedroom door opened, and I knew that it was her. When I saw her, I glared. “You smell like him.”

She grimaced. “I’m sorry. Nothing happened. I just went to check up on him, that’s all. And it did some good didn’t it? We found out what happened with his mom.”
