Pilot (Part 1)

~Lawrence, Kansas,1983~

Crickets chirp as an eerie silence falls over the neighborhood. A large deciduous tree with no leaves stands outside one of several suburban homes.

In the nursery of said home a woman dressed in a white nightgown walks in carrying a young boy who appears to be no older than four.

"Come on, let's say good night to your brother." The mother, Mary Winchester says to her oldest son Dean.

Mary turns on the lights of the nursery showing a baby lying in his crib. Mary sets Dean down and he leans over the side of the crib and kisses Sam on the forehead.

"Night, Sammy" Dean says.

"Good night, love." Mary brushes Sam's hair back and kisses his forehead.

"Hey Dean" The voice of a man entering the room draws their attention. The man in the doorway wearing a USMC T-shirt is John Winchester and Dean rushes over to him.

"Daddy."

"Hey, buddy." John addresses his son scooping him up.

John says, "So what do you think? You think Sammy's ready to toss around a football yet?"

Dean shakes his head, laughing "No daddy." Making his father laugh and shake his head.

Maru passes John and Dean on the way out of the room.

"You got him?" She asks.

"I got him." John says "Sweet dreams, Sam."

John carries Dean out of the room, flipping off the lights. Sam watches them go, gurgling, then tries to reach his toes.

The baseball-themed mobile above Sams' crib begins to spin on its own while Sam watches. The transportation-themed clock on the wall ticks, ticks, stops. The moon-shaped nightlight flickers.

Lights flicker on a baby monitor sitting on a nightstand next to a photo of Mary and John. Strange noises come through the monitor. Mary asleep in bed, stirs and turns on the light on the nightstand.

"John." She calls out to her husband only to realize she is alone.

Mary walks down the hall to Sams' nursery where she sees a man only in silhouette standing over Sams' crib.

"John? Is he hungry?" She questions.

'John' turns his head and shhhes her.

"All right." Mary says and heads back down the hallway.

The light by the stairs is flickering. Mary frowns and goes to tap at it till the light steadies.

More flickering light is coming from downstairs. A war movie is on TV and John has fallen asleep watching it. If John is here, Mary realizes, then the man upstairs cannot be her husband and must be a danger. She runs back upstairs.

"Sammy! Sammy!" Mary cries as she enters the nursery.

Downstairs John is awoken by his wifes' screams.

John scrambles out of the chair and runs up the stairs calling out to his wife. He bursts through the closed door of the nursery looking around.

The room is quiet and appears empty except for Sam awake in his crib. John glances around and pushes down the side of Sams' crib.

"Hey, Sammy. You okay?" John asks his son.

Something dark drips next to Sam. John touches it. Two more drops land on the back of Johns' hand. It looks like blood and he looks up. Mary is sprawled across the ceiling, the stomach of her nightgown red with blood, staring at John. John collapses onto the floor, staring at Mary.

"No! Mary." John screams.

Mary bursts into flame. The fire spreads over the ceiling. John stares, frozen as Sam wails. He then reminded he's not alone, gets up and scoops Sam out of his crib and rushes out of the room.

"Daddy." Dean calls to his father.

John shoves Sam at Dean.

"Take your brother outside as fast as you can and don't look back. Now, Dean, go." John instructs his son.

Dean turns and runs. John turns back to the nursery. The entire room is on fire. Mary herself can barely be seen. Making John scream out in agony.

Dean runs outside, holding Sam. "It's okay, Sammy."

Dean turns to look up at Sams' window, which is lit with flames.

John runs outside, scoops up Dean and Sam and carries them both away. " I gotcha."

Fire explodes out of Sams nursery window.

The Lawrence fire department has arrived. A Firefighter gets out of a fire truck and takes over at the gauges for another firefighter.

The second firefighter goes to the back of the truck and takes a hose from a third firefighter. That firefighter takes the hose towards the house where a fourth firefighter is spraying through Sams' nursery window. A paramedic opens the back of an ambulance. A Police Officer waves some neighbors back.

Across the street from the house, John and Dean sit on the hood of Johns' Impala, John holding Sam as he looks up at the remnants of the fire.

~Hospital Waiting Room in California.~

A young man is currently pacing the floor of the waiting room a look of pure terror on his face. Sitting on a plastic chair is a younger boy still in his teens staring at his brother.

"Dean you need to stop pacing." The young boys says.

"You don't think I know that Sammy. God why is no one saying anything." Dean says.

"Have you gotten hold of dad yet?" Sam asks his brother as he takes a seat next to him.

"No he's still following a lead out in Omaha, but Bobby said to call if anything happens."

An hour later at eleven thirty one at night a doctor enters the waiting room sporting a grim look on his face.

"Mr. Winchester?" The doctor asks.

"Yes what's going in?" Dean demands to know.

"I'm very sorry to tell you this Mr. Winchester but your girlfriend has passed away due to severe blood loss." The doctor informs him.

"What about the baby?"

"Your daughter is perfectly fine. Slightly underweight but healthy nonetheless. Would you like to see her?"

Dean sits frozen for a second the doctors words swirling in his head. He has a daughter and her mother is dead. Dean didn't know the woman just that he had a one night stand with her and received a call three weeks later saying she was pregnant.

Lucky his father had been spending the past few months tracking down a lead as to what killed their mother so he didn't know about the baby.

Dean and Sam were staying close to California the last two weeks so they could be here when the baby comes, the only person who knows is Bobby Singer. Dean has yet to figure out how to tell his father.

He can vaguely hear his brother ask the doctor to give them some time and he leaves after giving Sam directions to the nursery.

"Dean? You okay?" Sam asks.

"I have a daughter Sammy. What do I do? Dad is going to freak out. How is she going to fit into our life." Dean is now in a panic as Sam tries to calm him down.

"I don't know but what I do know is that you have a daughter whose mother just died and is going to need her father Dean." Sam tells his older brother.

Finally the Winchester boys make their way to the nursery where a nurse preps Dean to hold his daughter. Wrapped in a pink blanket is the smallest thing he has ever seen.

"She's beautiful." Dean says feeling tears in his eyes as he stares at his baby girl. Green eyes meet green eyes as father and daughter stare at each other.

"She is. Congrats Dean, but she still needs a name."

"Juliette. Juliette Mary Winchester."

"Welcome to the world Juliette." Sam says to his niece.

~Three Days Later ~

After spending some days being monitored by hospital staff and sorting through mountains of paperwork the three Winchester all left together. John still wasn't able to be reached but they were headed to Sioux Falls to stay with Bobby.

Loading up the impala Dean made a quick stop to get a car seat for Juliette, Bobby promised to help get everything they needed by the time they arrived. Juliette was a little fussy but as they drove the sounds of the impala put her to sleep.

"Hey ya idjits." Bobby says as Sam and Dean walk into the house with the latter carrying a car seat.

"Hey Bobby. Listen thanks for doing this." Dean parises the man but Bobby just waves him off.

"Don't mention it boy besides your family and we take care of our own. Now let's see the girl."

Carefully Dean places the car seat to the kitchen table and unfastened the belt. The baby is wide awake and moves happily as her father comes into frame.

"Hey Julie-bug there's someone i want you to meet." Dean says sweetly to his daughter as Sam and Bobby watch on. He brings her over and help Bobby adjust her carefully in his arms.

"Hello lil miss. She's beautiful Dean." Bobby says to the young man he views as his own son. Tears of joys welding in his eyes.

"Thank you Bobby."

"So does your daddy know yet?'

"No we um...we haven't been able to contact him yet." Sam speaks up

Bobby just rolls his eyes " He'll come wondering in soon enough. In the meantime your rooms are ready and I left everything you should need for little miss here. You'll just need to restock on diapers, clothes and baby formula but your set for now."

"Thank you Bobby really. I better get her changed and fed it's getting late. Come on bug say good night to your pop-pop. "

Both men lock eyes and are equally teary but the share a look of understanding before Dean leave to take care of his daughter.

The next few days the three men and baby fall into a comfortable routine, Dean wears at night with Juliette, in the morning Sam watches her so his brother can get some rest and Bobby takes care of her during the day if Sam is busy with school work or Dean is working around the yard. All the men try to find excuses to hold the little girl not that she minds the attention.

Everything was find until the fifth day when John Winchester pulls up in the Salvage yard. The men are have breakfast when a knock on the door alerts them someone is here.

Bobby leave to answer the door and two voices can be heard before two men walk into the kitchen causing both Winchester to stiffen.

"Dad." Both Sam and Dean say as their father walks in.

"Boys. What's going on here?" He demands to know eyeing the baby in Deans' lap.

"Um...well sir this is my daughter Juliette." Dean explains to John.

"Your daughter " John repeats slowly as if testing the works. "What the hell is wrong with you Dean. How could you be so careless."

His harsh tone startles the baby cause her to cry. Immediately Dean jumps up and starts rocking her to calm her down.

"Watch you tone Winchester." Bobby threatens.

"I need to speak with you alone Dean. Now." John says before walking outside.

"Go we go her." Bobby says taking the little girl who is not to happy to be away from her father.

The two men are outside for a while and by the time they come back Juliette is asleep. As much as he does not like the idea John is leaving his son with the girl but both boys still need to find a way to go on hunts with him. He gives them the day to pack up before they leave for a hunt tomorrow.

Bobby doesn't like the idea but he have no choice, he watches as the boys pack up and get ready to leave saying goodbye to them individually.

"I don't know how to repay you Bobby for everything." Dean tells him.

"You don't got to repay me ya idjit just promise me you will take care for that girl, raise her right and come visit." Bobby says.

Dean laughs" I promise Bobby."

"Oh and Dean. Remember your a better man than your daddy ever will be." He says before waving on last time as both vehicles drive away.
