Eye of the Storm

The heroes jumped back again into the truck as soon as possible, the group couldn't believe what they just saw as the wind roared loudly outside.

"A fucking sandstorm?!" exclaimed Golden Eagle,

"Is it normal here?!" Added Steel Eagle,

"It's not but I can't see where I'm going and I don't want to move this thing without making sure I don't step on a landmine." Fox said to them, Steel Eagle then turned on the mine detector and grinned widely,

"Fox, head a few meters forward then make a left." Steel stated, Fox tipped on the gas slowly as he drove the truck carefully away from the mines.

"Now make a right." Steel said, Dr Madnar then approached Snake with a compass in hand,

"Snake, take a look at this." Madnar told him, Snake glanced at it and so did Ellen, they both realized that the colored point was strangely pointing in the opposite direction.

"It's not pointing north? But why?" Snake asked,

"I was wondering that too, it started once we got back in the truck to avoid the sandstorm, it seems something is altering the magnetic pole in the sandstorm, forcing it to be aimed in this direction." Madnar explained, Snake paused for a minute then thought to dial only one man in this moment,

"Big Boss, come in?" called out Solid Snake,

"What is it, Solid Snake?" replied Big Boss,

"We seem to have got caught in a random sandstorm but the strangest thing is that this compass that Madnar has isn't pointing northward."

"….by god Ishmael got his hands on the experimental weather machine!" exclaimed Big Boss,

"Wait, a weather machine?" asked Solid,

"Yes, Outer Heaven was also testing an experimental machine to alter the weather conditions in any environment for combat uses. Our scientists found a connection between magnetism and climate so the government decided to create a machine that can make an electromagnetic field to alter the weather. The machine causes the magnetic field in the area to be altered, making the machine into a magnetic pole." explained Big Boss,

"I see, is there a way to stop the machine?" asked Snake,

"I have a plan, Eagle Eye is still flying nearby, asking for his help on bombing the machine. His frequency is 120.05 ." Big Boss replied,

"Right, thanks Boss." Snake ended the call then dialed the frequency he got from Big Boss,

"This is Solid Snake calling Eagle Eye."

"Greetings Snake, what can I help you with?" answered Eagle Eye,

"We need you to bomb the weather machine causing this sandstorm. Can you help us out?" asked Snake,

"I would love to but the storm is messing with my radar. I can't get a good view of the machine to target it."

"Damn…" Snake replied. He looked around the truck, looking at the crates and spotted something that gave him a unique idea. Snake ran up to the crate and grabbed a small flare gun.

"How about I send you a signal?" asked Snake, Eagle Eye was confused and so were the others.

"Found myself a little handy flare gun, I can go to the Alpha Building, head to the roof then fire a flare to show you where to target." Snake explained, he looked through the crate and noticed it had some signal flares, he took a couple of them and put it in his pouch. Suddenly, he began to feel something odd, a cold chill behind him. Ellen and Dr Madnar began rubbing their arms together trying to warm themselves up, the Eagles felt it but then the oddest thing was happening. In the truck, Fox saw that the sandstorm suddenly stopped, he then began to notice the weirdest thing in this specific South African climate. A snowflake fell from the sky and landed on the window, one snowflake became five then ten and finally, with a large wind howl, a powerful and quick snowstorm began blowing. The group inside heard the snowstorm rage on aggressively, Fox turned on the heater to heat up the truck while the others were unsure what was happening. Suddenly, a bullet ripped through the back of the truck, they all heard it and got on their stomachs to avoid the gunfire.

"I need to get to that machine." Snake said,

"That snowstorm is brutal, Snake! You can't survive with that attire on!" Ellen exclaimed,

"I have to get there one way or another." Snake enforced. Ellen got up and looked around the truck for something he could use, she looked at an unopened crate then went up to it and shot the lock off. Ellen lifted the lid to reveal a large stuffed suit with a gas masked helmet. The sight of the suit gave Steel Eagle a large smile,

"A bomb blast suit! These things are made to survive any climate, both hot or cold. Sure you'll be limited in movement but it's the only way you can get to the Alpha Building!" Steel explained. Steel Eagle quickly dug through the crates to find some duct tape, he then went up to Dr Madnar and took his compass. The others were curious on what he was doing, they noticed him tape the compass to one sleeve and then taped the mine detector to another. He handed the suit to Snake then Snake began to put the suit on,

"One more thing." Steel said, he grabbed Snake's thermal goggles and put them on him,

"Should help you see better in the snowstorm." Steel told him, Golden meanwhile found two other sets of thermal goggles,

"Hey Stevie, I have a plan. Up for some hunting?" She asked with a grin as she tossed Steel Eagle an SVD Sniper Rifle,

"Gonna give me some covering fire?" Asked Snake,

"Yep, given you won't be able to move that much in that giant suit, me and my brother will shoot down the mercs." explained Golden Eagle,

"While you're making your way to the Alpha Building use the mine detector to clear a path for us. The snow will make it hard for us to see them so you do your thing, we got your back." chimes in Steel Eagle, Solid nodded and began to slowly waddle his way out of the truck and out into the howling and raging snowstorm. The snow was up to his calves so he had to hurry before it buried everyone else. Snake glanced down at the mine detector to memorize the location of the landmines, he started by walking towards his right and digging into the snow to grab the landmine, keeping a good distance so he didn't blow up. The Eagles peaked out of the truck and took aim using their rifles as Snake continued to pull out landmine after landmine,

"Alright sis…I take the east and you take the west." whispered Steel, Golden Eagle nodded and looked through her scope. She spotted a couple of enemies who were moving in towards Snake, she took a deep breath and locked onto them. Her body was trained to handle any situation, even the aching stinging cold. She then shot the approaching mercenaries one by one, her brother followed up by killing the farther mercenaries. They kept covering Snake while he was taking away and disarming the landmines, by the time he was done, he managed to get rid of the mines in the surrounding area of the truck. Solid glanced at his other wrist at the compass pointing towards the weather machine to know where he was going,

" Hang on everyone, I'll be back soon. " Snake thought as he continued forward toward the Alpha Building, removing mines as he did so and unsure of the threats he would face before fighting the dreaded Metal Gear.
