A few days passed since he left and David was driving on the highway in Alaska. He hasn't slept well for those days due to his mind being plagued by nightmares and the bandages that covered the right eye always reminding him of Zanzibar Lands. He was listening to a recent cassette tape he acquired, one song that struck a nerve with him as it read his mind like an open book,
"I…hurt myself today…to see if I still feel…I focus on the pain…the only thing that's real…The needle tears a hole…The old familiar sting ... .Try to kill it all away, but I remember everything…" David sang as he pulled up to a cabin which happened to also be an office. He paused the tape, got out of his car and entered the office with two briefcases in hand, the register was ran by an older Inuit man who greeted David with a smile,
"Welcome, what can I do for you today, sir?" asked the man,
"I heard from someone in town that you guys sell cabins? You are Kallik, right?" asked David,
"Yes, we don't usually sell to outsiders, may I ask why are you seeking to purchase a cabin?" asked Kallik,
"Let's just say that I need to be alone for a while and Alaska is the perfect place." explained David. Kallik noticed his army jacket and simply sighed,
"Ok I'll be honest with you, I'll be willing to sell you a good cabin worth your money but just keep your nose out of trouble." Kallik explained,
"I promise, will this be enough to cover everything?" asked David as he placed the briefcases on the table and opened the briefcases which had thousands of dollars which made Kallik completely drop his jaw from seeing all this money,
"Uh…uh yes, yes this works. I believe you'll need furniture and hunting equipment, yes?" asked Kallik, David nodded and Kallik search under for the key to David's new home,
"Follow the road to the top of the cliff, it'll be marked with a hatchet." explained Kallik,
"Thank you." David said as he walked to his car while Kallik went to get things ready for him. When he stepped out the door, he saw a little husky pup run up to him, happily barking. David looked down and couldn't help but smile as the little husky pup playfully nibbled on his ankle. David picked up the puppy and brought him back in the car, he played the tape as he drove in the direction of his new cabin.
"What have I become…My sweetest friend, everyone I know…goes away in the end…And you could have it all, my empire of dirt. I will let you down…I will make you hurt." David sang once more as the sun began to set in front of him, a tear shedding under his bandaged eye as a final reminder to everything that's happened in his life, the battles and the losses he's suffered.
"If I could start again…A million miles away, I will keep myself…I would find…a way…"
