"We did not mean it that way," his father's voice was earnest.

"Your father is right. If you truly want to give this a shot, then we'll support you. But know that you don't have to do this just because you believe that this is what your father and I want."

"Don't worry. This is something that I truly want." He made sure that his honest feelings showed in his voice and that his determination showed on his face. Marrying Remi was everything he wanted, and he could not allow his parents to change their minds.

"Fine," his mother relented, "but if he does anything that will harm you, then-" his mother did not finish, the threat in her words clear as day.

"I understand."

He did not tell them that they didn't need to worry, that Remi wasn't that kind of person, but he knew that his parents wouldn't believe his words. Without the passage of time or proof, his words would just be empty claims in his parents eyes.
