ADDA DRAGGED her feet a few inches closer, turning the whispers into words. Yet, she didn’t dare to break the distance, otherwise, she might become her mother’s show-off.
“Oh, really? Well, you have to understand her, she must have had A LOT to confess…”
Or perhaps they already were.
“I’ll let you know my daughter is clean, Grace. Have you been too? Last week I didn’t see you here. You’re starting to fall behind again…”
Adda sighed, as always, the conversations between them left the room freezing and the air stale.
“I am fine. However, I have been a bit worried lately…”
“Must be-”
“Have you heard the news? We have to protect our children more than ever of the influences of the devil.”
Her mother seemed to want to protest, but Grace put a hand on her shoulder first.
“I say this with honesty”
“Sure”
“It’s true. Look at the news! The new generations are getting brainwashed with… the disease”
