CHAPTER SIXTY SIX

A MONOTONE buzzing had lingered in the dreams of the woman who laid in her bed facing down, exhausted. After tossing and turning around until the alarm faded into the background, an idea lit up in her head. Adda quickly propped herself up to search for her phone and her eyes drew to the screen with a creeping worry.

“8:30 AM… It’s only 8:30.”

She sighed, relieved to know her fears of missing out on her girlfriend’s movie session were unfounded.

Adda sat up and stretched herself, wishing she could stay for a few more minutes, but instead her mind began to wonder what to wear to the invite. It was a slow morning as she prepared herself and, when the college student left her room, she was greeted with the absolute silence of a sleeping house. No metal music, no yelling over videogames, no fights… Only the distant humming of the cars. On days like that, rare as they were, Adda felt like the world was at peace, even if it only was for a short period of time.
