Chapter Twenty-Four

"I promise ma, I'll come back… before Christmas this time," Becca assured her as they said goodbye before they had to make their way to the airport. She glanced at her boyfriend before giving her mother a hug.

"I hope you'll bring him along too," Mrs. Swindell told her softly, not having missed the gesture. "I'd like to get know him better," she added, her hidden message not going unnoticed; it meant both her parents seemed to approve of their daughter's new boyfriend.

"Thanks," the younger Swindell said, kissing her cheek before pulling out of the hug.

"Have a safe flight, Bexxie," Mr. Swindell said as he now got her attention, his wife focusing hers on their daughter's boyfriend. "It was good seeing ya," he added as he gave her a hug.

"You too daddy," Becca smiled, knowing that she'd meant it when she promised her mother that she wanted to come back more often. Her visits in the last couple of years had spaced out, without her meaning to.
