Huan Wei was the first to attack. He held his sword with both hands and swung with all his strength. His opponent blocked this attack with his spear and retaliated. Huan Wei also stepped aside and dodged the spear that was about to pierce his body.
This man didn't look like someone who didn't know how to use a weapon like Huan Liwei. Huan Wei felt like he had seen this young man before. He had probably seen him bullying someone in town.
"You've caused us a lot of trouble for nothing." The one with the spear spoke. "Just surrender quietly and be done with it."
"Okay."
Huan Wei attacked one after another with his sword. His opponent blocked each attack. The shaft of his spear didn't seem to take much damage. Probably the material was of good quality.
The young man was advancing step by step as he continued his attacks, but suddenly his opponent had the upper hand.
The spear-wielding youth thrust his weapon one after the other. Huan Wei moved out of the way of the attacks, but it was not easy. He blocked an attack from the handle of the spear with his sword. His opponent took advantage of this and kicked him in the stomach, sending Huan Wei flying backwards.
Before Huan Wei could recover, his opponent was at his feet and raised his weapon for the killing blow. As the spear came towards his head, Huan Wei rolled and dodged the attack. The youth with the spear also picked up his weapon and lunged again.
Huan Wei gritted his teeth. He had never thought that the sword skills he had practiced for so long would be not enough. Perhaps he had been too arrogant? The fact that Huan Liwei knew nothing about using weapons gave him confidence.
He picked up dirt with his free hand and suddenly threw it at the spear-wielding youth's face. He backed away to shield his eyes. Huan Wei took advantage of the gap and stood up.
"Throwing dirt?" said the one with the spear. "They said you have no pride."
Huan Wei thought. This time the opponent was not weak for him. If he was going to kill him, he couldn't rely on his sword skills alone. So he decided to use a more defensive fighting style. He did not attack and waited for his opponent to arrive.
"What is your name?" he asked him. The one with the spear hesitated.
"Huan Renshu."
"Why did you come after me, Huan Renshu? Have I done you any harm?"
Huan Wei was listening at the same time. He had to finish this quickly and leave. He calmly walked towards Huan Renshu.
"Huan Quon told us what an asshole you are. Don't get emotional for nothing. Everything will be better when I get the prize."
"Sure, if Huan Quon said it, it's true."
Huan Renshu suddenly attacked. At the last moment, Huan Wei struck the side of the spear with his sword and parried the attack. Huan Renshu was also attacking with the shaft of the spear. The attacks from both sides forced Huan Wei to retreat. He was about to take another kick, but this time he had learned his lesson. He jumped back and gained some distance.
Huan Renshu didn't let him go. He jumped into the air and plunged his spear into him. Huan Wei parried this by pulling back his right shoulder. Then he reached out and grabbed Huan Renshu by the throat. He was about to thrust his sword into his heart when a knee to the abdomen stopped him. Huan Renshu was saved.
"You were known as a loser, Huan Wei," said Huan Renshu. "But you are a good swordsman and have reached the Traveler stage. You must be a fool not to fight back."
"I am."
Huan Wei watched him. He paid attention to how he made his moves. He always had his right arm in front and took the first step with his left foot. He held the spear in the center. So he could attack with the shaft too.
When Huan Renshu attacked once more, Huan Wei took his own sword in his left hand. Again the spear-bearer made a stabbing attack with all his strength. Huan Wei threw himself to the left and cut deeply into his right shoulder with his sword. A pained sound came from the young man. He immediately attacked, swinging the spear to the side, forcing Huan Wei to retreat.
The youth with the sword looked at him. "What happened? Can't you use your spear when your right arm hurts?" he said in a mocking tone. It was really fun to be on the side of mocking people. He understood the pleasure taken by those who had bullied him all this time.
Huan Renshu gripped his spear tightly. "Is this the first battle of your life or something? You only cut my shoulder a little. You're so triumphant."
Huan Renshu lunged and started to attack faster. Huan Wei tried to block with his sword. When the tip of the spear was on the flat side of the sword, the young man put his free hand on the sword so that the weapon would not fly out of his hand. Huan Wei walked backwards as Huan Renshu continued to press.
Finally, his back was to the tree. He was next to Huan Yongzheng's corpse. Huan Renshu was suppressing anger.
The young man backed away from the sword. Huan Renshu couldn't stop the spear in time and thrust it into the tree. As he drew his weapon and prepared to strike again, Huan Wei immediately bent down and picked up one of the daggers on the corpse. He now had a sword in one hand and a dagger in the other. Two weapons were better than one.
This time Huan Wei attacked. First he thrust his sword forward. Huan Renshu dodged aside but could not block the dagger in his stomach. Huan Wei attacked in a rage and buried the dagger completely into his flesh.
Huan Renshu pushed him away and quickly retreated. With one hand he was pressing on the wound in his abdomen. He could no longer stand upright.
"You were talking about victory." Huan Wei spoke as he looked at him with furious eyes. "Repeat what you said."
Huan Renshu was slowly retreating. "You're crazy!" he said as he pressed on his wound.
"Where are you going?" Huan Wei rushed forward and grabbed him by the hair, pulling him to the ground. Huan Renshu must have been debilitated from a serious wound. He couldn't even raise his spear to defend himself. On the other hand, this had gone on too long. Huan Wei couldn't waste any more time.
"HELP! HE'S HERE!"
Huan Renshu shouted before the final blow was struck. Immediately afterwards, sword was thrust through his head, severing him from this life.
Huan Wei could hear voices coming from inside the forest. Many people were coming towards him. The voices were coming from several different directions. They were all in the direction of the town. In that case, he couldn't go there.
He bent down and picked up Huan Yongzheng's other dagger. After putting the sword and daggers on his waist, he headed deeper into the forest. He could hear people approaching.
The depths were dangerous. He didn't want to face any of the natural monsters, but facing humans was not a good option either. Besides, he couldn't go as far as he and Yuchi Meizhen had gone. He had no flying sword.
He passed through the trees. He could hear that they had found Huan Renshu's body.
"Spread out and search! The first one to find it should tell the others!"
The person shouting did not sound like a young man. Huan Wei realized it was Huan Manchu. After all, he had been in prison too long for the young man to recognize him. He had to be at least thirty or forty years old. Even Huan Chao was 38.
He started to run faster. He had his sword in his hand. The daggers were at his waist. He didn't want to be caught, but he didn't want to run forever. His father's face flashed before his eyes. He was looking at him with pitying eyes and shouting that he was pathetic.
He stopped running. He bowed his head. He was squeezing the sword so hard that his hand was shaking. He had not come into this world to be a loser. Huan Chao was not right. His pursuers despised him. Huan Wei was much more than that. So much more... He was unaware of the demon mark on his clenched hand. His feelings were calling it. The mark spread further in his palm.
He sheathed his sword. He spotted one of the tall trees and started climbing. As he hid himself among the branches, he could hear people approaching. He had a different expression on his face. It was the expression of someone who had stopped running. He was going to face his fears.
He grabbed both the daggers at his waist and waited. He wanted blood. He wanted them to feel the fear they had put him through all this time. This was his territory. He would kill anyone who entered the forest. Even if it meant dying.
