Yun Ying took another merchant's ring and emptied it. "Kill this one too."
Huan Wei swung his sword and cut off her head. The bandits were slowly getting angry. Why was a slave doing the killing of captives? That was their job.
"Yun Ying," Xin Hai stepped forward. "Why do you let a slave do what we always do? He wasn't even kill anyone in battle."
The fat woman turned toward him. "Are you jealous because he killed two defenseless merchants?"
Lan Xifeng laughed. The bandits next to him were laughing too. "It seems your men have begun to question your judgment, dear Ying."
Yun Ying turned to Lan Xifeng. Her brows were furrowed. She looked furious. "It was my men who did most of the work. Yours were useless. Look at the people under your command first, you freak."
Yun Ying turned to Xin Hai as Lan Xifeng continued to laugh mockingly. "Are you offended by him?"
Huan Wei was listening to all the talk. He was aware that the bandits didn't like him in the slightest. In fact, they hated him. All along the way, he had felt their gaze on him, full of the desire to kill. But now he felt uneasy. Yun Ying, who was always angry, was talking calmly with Xin Hai. This did not bode well for Huan Wei.
"We don't know why we took in a slave. Now he is doing our work. How are we any different from slaves? Will he get a share of the loot?" As Xin Hai spoke, the other bandits spoke in support. Finally Yun Ying silenced everyone.
"Actually, I don't want him here either, yet this is Ou Yu's order. I still won't stop you."
Huan Wei looked at Yun Ying in surprise. Then his eyes turned to Xin Hai, who had picked up his scimitar. His eyes made it clear that he wanted to kill the young man.
Huan Wei held his sword with both hands. This kind of weapon could cause his sword to fly out of his hand in one blow.
"If Ou Yu gave the order, you can't kill me." He was in no mood to think about why his bandit boss wanted him on this mission. "The news will surely reach Ou Yu."
Lan Xifeng laughed. "No, it won't." The woman turned around and looked at her own men. "Will it?"
"It won't," they said in unison.
Huan Wei gritted his teeth. Xin Hai was strong. He also possessed the Stonebody. Add in the fact that the weapon he was wielding was a heavy scimitar, and the situation was not good. And he was using the earth element.
The bandits suddenly surrounded them in a circle. They were leaving space for the two of them to fight. They also blocked any way for Huan Wei to escape.
"He intended to escape right away." Xin Hai smiled. "Don't be afraid, Huan Wei. I will cut you in two in one blow. It will be a quick death."
Xin Hai lunged and swung his scimitar high and low. Huan Wei dodged this attack by stepping aside. He then charged with his sword, but Xin Hai quickly raised his weapon and met the blow.
"You didn't expect it to be that easy, did you, you piece of slave?"
Huan Wei punched him in the face. Yet Xin Hai blocked the punch with his head. The young man's hand hurt. The man with the scimitar was fine.
Huan Wei took a few steps back. He was furious at the bandits' jealousy. Ou Yu was probably impressed that Huan Wei had attacked the man with the dagger. But these men couldn't stand him.
The bandits were having fun, just like at a dinner fight. They all took Xin Hai's side. Huan Wei, the slave, was alone. Lan Xifeng and Yun Ying didn't even watch the fight. They continued to collect loot.
Huan Wei had fallen off a cliff before, suffering severe injuries. He had even seen a demon. Xin Hai didn't seem like someone to be afraid of at that moment. So he refused to die in fear. He gripped his sword tightly in both hands and attacked. If he was going to die, he would die fighting.
He jumped and spun around, swinging his sword. Xin Hai raised the scimitar, held it in both hands and blocked the blow. But Huan Wei did not stop. When he landed on the ground, he swung his sword at his legs.
Xin Hai was fast for his weapon. His physical strength from the Stonebody allowed him to wield this heavy weapon quickly.
He twirled the scimitar in his hand and blocked the young man's blow. Then he grabbed him by the metal collar and threw him forward.
Huan Wei fell to the ground and rolled two rounds before stopping and getting to his feet. Xin Hai was laughing.
"Look, everyone. The boy is angry."
They continued to laugh. Huan Wei looked at his left hand. It was itching. But the Corrupt Seal hadn't appeared. If it had, he probably wouldn't have hesitated to use it. Yet the black veins still extended to a little above his wrist.
Xin Hai went on the attack. He swung the machete at a wide angle. Huan Wei ducked and dodged the attack. For a slave who was only at the Wanderer stage, he was putting up a pretty good fight. But Xin Hai hadn't used any techniques yet.
Huan Wei attacked the man's stomach. Because he had the Oakbody, he could have cut someone in the Stonebody. Yet he forgot the biggest difference between them.
Experience...
Xin Hai kicked him because he knew he would do it. His foot landed right in Huan Wei's face and knocked him back.
The young man stood up, holding his nose. He had not expected this attack. His nose was bleeding.
Xin Hai attacked once more. This time he swung the scimitar with all his might. Huan Wei reflexively raised the sword and blocked the attack. But his action cost him his weapon.
The sword broke and pieces flew far away. A few strands of the young man's hair were also cut off. Xin Hai smiled triumphantly, thinking that he could no longer fight. Yet he didn't know.
Huan Wei attacked with the broken sword and made a solid cut in his stomach. Shocked, the man took a step back, but Huan Wei didn't let him.
He attacked again. The broken sword was like a dagger. He could strike faster than before. As Xin Hai prepared to swing the scimitar once more, Huan Wei attacked his throat.
The man with the machete dodged it by tilting his body backwards. Yet he had received a scratch on his throat. It was bleeding a little.
He put his hand to his throat. Then he smiled. Huan Wei was preparing to attack again. Xin Hai turned to Yun Ying. "This boy knows what he's doing, boss," he said.
"That's enough." Yun Ying stopped them. Huan Wei was still holding the broken sword tightly in his hand.
"Look at this," said one of the bandits. "He fights better with a broken sword than with a good one."
"Maybe we should have given him a dagger or something? We gave him the wrong weapon."
"Xin Hai, you almost died, idiot."
The bandits started laughing. Xin Hai was demoralized. He hadn't expected this. Perhaps he had underestimated Huan Wei? The boy had almost no real combat experience. But he seemed to have improved himself. When he wasn't fighting, he didn't stand idly by. Either way, the fact that a slave had almost killed him had shaken his reputation among his friends.
He put his hand on the wound in his stomach. Then he swallowed a pill. Meanwhile, Yun Ying turned to Huan Wei. "If you tell anyone about what happened here, you won't see the next day. Just so you know."
Lan Xifeng also seemed amused. "Come on, boys. Get yourselves some loot. Or Ou Yu will take it all for herself."
The bandits quickly set about looting the caravan. Huan Wei did not understand what was happening here. Was this some kind of test? Or would he suddenly be killed when he least expected it? It was very difficult not being able to trust anything. It made him paranoid. He wished he could trust something...
He hesitated whether or not to take something from the loot. It was a caravan. Maybe they would have some cultivation pills that would help him. Yet the bandits had already made it clear that they didn't want him to take a share of the loot. It would be frowned upon for him to try to take anything at this time. So he waited in silence.
He was looking at Xin Hai. The man was putting the most valuable things he could find into his ring. His scimitar was still on his back.
Huan Wei tried to feel the Qi flowing inside him. His battle with Xin Hai had also given him good progress. He was almost halfway through the early phase of the Wanderer stage. If he fought a few more battles like this, he was sure he would be ready to advance to the Explorer stage. But he wasn't planning to stay with these bandits for that long.
"You are all pawns. I am the player. You will go where I want you to go and do what I want you to do," he thought. "And when I want the game to end, the game will end."
