"What?"
Yoshi exclaimed. She's sure she's at least Semi-Grade 1 as a sorcerer.
"You've got raw power, but you're not tapping into your innate cursed technique. Your approach is reckless; if others are around, they'd be in danger. You're skilled, no doubt, but experience is crucial. There's potential, So, it's not all bad."
Yoshi didn't expect that kind of answer.
"I can't use my innate cursed tech-"
Kusakabe stopped her and said straight to her face
"Kid, I get it, you've got reasons, and I won't fault you. You're young and have a lot of future , aside from that strength wise, you are above Grade 2 for sure, I would say even Semi-Grade 1. Now, Professionally, people die in this field, you have to give it your all, the way you acted now will kill others if they ever worked with you."
"Then, Can't you at least test me with a Grade 1 cursed spirit?"
"Nope, Exorcising is one thing, but the point is you're not ready. Grade 3 is where you belong. Being a Grade 2 means facing Grade 1 spirits with other sorcerers, risking their lives. For now, Stick to Grade 3, you can handle anything Grade 2 and below. As I said, you have power but this assessment is more about skill and other factors"
Yoshi just sighed, even if it was frustrating, she just accepted Kusakabe's Judgement. She can sense his control over cursed energy and tell he's a skilled person even if his cursed energy is so ordinary. Not to mention, he isn't being unreasonable either.
"It's not all bad, next time, you can directly apply for a Grade 1 license in the future. Anyway, congrats on being officially recognized as a Jujutsu sorcerer"
Kusakabe gave Yoshi the official license.
Seeing the number 3, Yoshi didn't know what to feel.
'At least, I can officially earn money in a short time'
Keeping the license inside the pocket. Yoshi gave the grade 1 katana she had in her gloves to Kusakabe.
"Why are you giving it to me?"
Yoshi summoned the bow and turned "There is a guy that has been following us, probably trying to assassinate me"
"Goddamit! I know something is going to go wrong" Kusakabe believed in his gut instinct and vigilantly looked around holding the katana in a defensive stance.
But, Yoshi stored away the long bow "...He ran away"
"Is this some kind of joke?"
Kusakabe shouted in annoyance, he didn't understand if he should trust her or not, just now she said something serious and now, she's saying completely different. Yoshi took the katana back and stored it.
"No, there was really someone. Two souls in a body. So, probably a seance technique user."
Kusakabe immediately uttered "Granny Ogami? So, you were not kidding."
"Granny? An old hag?"
"Don't underestimate her kid. She's a well-known assassin. She used her Seance technique to summon souls related to her victims to kill them. She's lying low for the last few years. She kidnaps children from orphanages and uses them as tools for assassination. You probably saw one of her 'Grandchildren'. "
Hearing about such a sorcerer surprised Yoshi.
"I don't know someone can stoop to such low. "
"Every sorcerer is crazy in some way But nice cursed technique by the way. I see why you didn't use it before. It's a sensor type huh"
Kusakabe just shrugged and praised her. Yoshi didn't bother to correct his assumption, she'd rather not want the news of her cursed technique being sealed out.
She's used to assassins these years. They would always run away whenever she turned towards them making them fear her.
Apart from that, these three years are spent doing experiments on cursed energy to make the binding vow of making cursed tools null and void.
She couldn't make much difference as already she learned almost everything about cursed energy from the data recorded by her clan and there's not much to learn about cursed energy, apart from the fact that it is related to spirits and souls.
Yoshi realized her grandmother downplayed her achievements and her father's achievements. Only a few people were able to break the binding vow in her clan.
Yoshi returned to Sendai, and by the time, she went to her clan's residence, it was already night time, So, she went to meet Kairi.
"Hey, Grandma"
Yoshi greeted the woman who is sleeping on the bed in a medical gown. Some tubes and wires are connected to various medical equipment, all supporting Kairi.
"Yoshi, how did it go?" Kairi asked, her voice being hoarse.
"It was disappointing, the sorcerer grading me pointed out my flaws, as for my grade, you probably know it already"
Kairi removed the equipment connecting to her.
"Hey, be careful"
"It's not like I will die, Yoshi. Only, I can kill myself " Kairi answered confidently while sitting on the bed and adjusting her pose.
Yoshi retorted in a mixture of fury and worry "Again with that stubbornness. You are not an immortal grandma."
"You said it yourself, I know it already"
Yoshi sighed "Fine, I got a grade 3. Are you happy? Now, go back to your bed"
"No, I've been getting bored sleeping on it all day for the last few months. Let's go outside"
Not waiting for Yoshi, Kairi left the room, and Yoshi shortly followed behind.
"Anyway, how is the research coming?"
"It will take so much longer~"
"Don't worry, you can do it someday and you are just a kid"
Kairi sat on the Engawa along with Yoshi, looking at the night sky with a full moon.
"Today seems like a beautiful night"
She always felt that this space had replaced the sunset view of Kyoto estate in her heart.
"I think your old age caught up to you Grandma. You have been acting really weird recently. Besides, I can't see the stars and the moon "
Yoshi said straight to her grandma's face.
"It looks like you have just entered your teenage too. I just want to spend time with my granddaughter, is it too much to ask?"
Yoshi remained silent, however, Kairi directly replied "You don't need my permission, you can go to Itadori's household whenever you want. It looks like you are the weird one here. Asking for permission when you have already been there a lot in the last few years"
Yoshi cussed when she realized, Kairi just answered what she initially wanted to ask but remained silent hearing her want to spend time.
"Those stupid future-seeing powers. I will act cool like you too when I get my innate cursed technique, as for asking you, it's just courtesy"
"As I said, Seeing Future is not that cool. It didn't make my life perfect, I still committed mistakes. I still have regrets in my life"
Yoshi was pleasantly surprised to hear it. Yoshi wanted to ask about her regrets but her grandma answered before she could question.
"There are a lot of regrets in my life but I never regretted the life that came with them"
Yoshi remained silent, the night sky remained beautiful but she didn't like it that much because of her limited vision. She can't see stars or space. She already forgot how space looked like.
'I don't like this life at all Grandma. I wish we were back at the Kyoto Residency'
These were the words Yoshi never uttered, just thinking them inside her head.
The life of Yoshi returned to normal. She would occasionally go to Itaodori's residence. A week passed and Yoshi received her first official mission.
"A curse in a Kifune shrine, isn't it a tourist attraction?"
The auxiliary manager on the other side answered "We will handle that, It's estimated to be a single Grade 2 cursed spirit. Further details will be given on the way"
'Grade 2? How can they give a newbie sorceress like me a Grade 2 curse? Well, sorcerers are meant to deal with curses above their grade. It's not like I can't deal with Grade 2's anyway'
"Alright, I will be in kyoto by evening"
Closing the flip phone. Yoshi sighed, packing her backpack with essentials. She met Wasuke Itadori, seeing him smoke, she immediately took it out of his mouth and threw it away.
"Uncle! How many times do I have to tell you? Don't smoke, you are just killing yourself"
Wasuke Itadori got annoyed and yelled "You brat! Why do you care if I die or live? I need the smoke to calm my mind. I don't want You to tell me what to do, you are not my Son"
Yoshi knowing his stubborn nature didn't back down either "You short old man, you and grandma have no care for your bodies. What do you think Yuji will breathe when he's home if you continuously smoke like a demon"
At the mention of Yuji, Wasuke regained his sense of reason. He sighed and apologized
"Yoshi, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said something horrible"
"It's alright Uncle. I know your temper tantrums get the best of you. But, I won't allow you to smoke especially with Yuji staying in this home. I will take my child away from this home if I see you smoking again. And why don't you care about your health in the least? Don't you think Yuji will cry if you die due to lung cancer?"
Wasuke replied "I can always die happily knowing you will be there for Yuji, Yoshi. That's why, besides, this is just my way to forget about my sadness. Anyway, are you going home?"
"Oh, Yes. I'm actually leaving, I will come back within a week or two"
