Like A Daughter

The rhythmic click of Kimberly's heels echoed through the hospital corridor as she navigated towards Richard's room.

Her mind was a whirlwind of doubt and trepidation. The conversation with Nicholas at the diner that morning had left a bitter taste in her mouth.

Nicholas' easy confidence and manipulative charm grated on her. Agreeing to his proposal felt like a betrayal, not just to Richard, but to herself.

Yet, the security and stability it offered were undeniable temptations in the face of the precarious situation she found herself in.

After much thought about it, she had given Richard a call two days ago to find out how he was doing and why he had suggested such a ridiculous thing to his son.

Richard, his voice, raspy and weak, had apologized profusely on Nicholas' behalf for whatever embarrassment he might have caused.
