Pretending

Outside, Martins and Grace walked slowly towards Martin's car, and as they walked farther from the house and towards his car, Grace felt anxiety bolt up in her stomach, her composed façade slowly crumbling.

"You didn't tell me you were coming over." She said as they approached his car.

"I only got his call last night. Sorry I couldn't tell you, and I wanted to surprise you."

"Well, I'm surprised." Truly she was. She has been restless for nights on how she had ruined an almost perfect day with her insecurities.

Darting her gaze around and sure they were safe and far from the eyes of those in the house, she caught his finger. "Martin, I'm so sorry about the other night," she began, her voice filled with regret. "I miss you. I hate how things ended between us."
