Food and Offer

Eun-tae and A-ri had agreed to meet Hyun-ki at a charming little restaurant nestled in the heart of the city. As they made their way to the venue, Eun-tae reached for A-ri's hand, his fingers entwining with hers. A-ri looked at him, a reassuring smile on her lips, feeling grateful for his constant support.

The restaurant was a cosy, dimly lit place with soft jazz playing in the background, setting the perfect ambience for a reconciliatory dinner. A-ri's anxiety gradually transformed into a sense of curiosity as they entered the restaurant and saw Hyun-ki already seated at their reserved table.

Hyun-ki stood as he spotted them, his expression earnest. He extended a hand towards Eun-tae and A-ri, greeting them warmly. Eun-tae shook his hand firmly, while A-ri offered a polite smile.

"Thank you for joining me tonight," Hyun-ki said with a gracious nod. "I truly appreciate this chance to make amends."

"Let's just enjoy the evening and put everything behind us," Eun-tae's gaze was unwavering as he responded.

They took their seats, A-ri sitting between the two men. The tension in the air was palpable, but they were all determined to make this dinner a turning point.

The waiter arrived to take their orders, and Eun-tae, always a connoisseur of fine dining, confidently selected a bottle of wine to complement their meal. Conversation flowed as they discussed their preferences, and gradually, the atmosphere lightened.

Hyun-ki, not one to shy away from engaging topics, steered the conversation toward art and its transformative power. He spoke passionately about the artists who had inspired him throughout his career and how each piece of art held a unique story, a journey of the artist's soul.

A-ri, her love for art shining through her eyes, couldn't help but be drawn into the discussion. She shared her thoughts on what art meant to her and the connection she felt with each piece she created. It was a side of her that Hyun-ki had yet to explore, and he listened with genuine interest.

Eun-tae, although more reserved about art, chimed in with stories from his experiences in the art tech world. He talked about the global launch of ArtWise and the exciting prospects it held for artists and art enthusiasts worldwide.

As the evening unfolded, the initial tension began to dissipate, replaced by a sense of camaraderie. They delved into various topics, from their college days to recent experiences, sharing anecdotes and laughter.

A-ri observed the dynamic between Eun-tae and Hyun-ki, a mix of friendship and caution. It was evident that their history was complex, and this dinner was an attempt to rebuild a bridge between them.

"To new beginnings and cherished friendships," as they enjoyed their meal, Eun-tae raised a toast, his eyes locking with A-ri's before turning to Hyun-ki.

"To new beginnings," Hyun-ki smiled, his gaze sincere.

With their glasses clinking together, they moved one step closer to healing old wounds and forging a fresh understanding. The dinner was far from a resolution, but it was a promising start on the path to reconciliation.

As the dinner progressed and the initial awkwardness faded, Hyun-ki broached a topic that had been lingering in the air, hanging like a question mark. He leaned forward, his gaze sincere, and directed his words at A-ri.

"A-ri, I've been thinking," he began. "I've seen your work, and I'm truly impressed by your talent. With the right guidance and mentorship, I believe you can reach incredible heights in your artistic journey."

A-ri exchanged a glance with Eun-tae, her husband's expressions equally inscrutable. Eun-tae had always been supportive of her art, but now there was a new layer of complexity to consider.

"I'd like to extend an offer, A-ri. Would you consider becoming my apprentice? I can provide you with insights, constructive critiques, and the opportunity to grow as an artist under my guidance. Together, we can explore new horizons in the art world," Hyun-ki's proposal hung in the air, and he continued with an earnest tone.

A-ri's heart raced. The offer was undeniably tempting. Hyun-ki's reputation as a renowned art critic was unparalleled, and the opportunity to learn from him was a rare privilege.

Eun-tae, while supportive of A-ri's dreams, couldn't help but feel a sense of caution. His recent encounter with Hyun-ki had been far from ordinary. The attempted intimate approach toward A-ri still lingered in his memory. Although the proposal seemed innocent and beneficial for A-ri's artistic growth, Eun-tae couldn't ignore the complexities of the situation.

"Hyun-ki, your offer is generous, and I want nothing but the best for A-ri. However, our history is complicated, and I can't help but be cautious about your intentions," he leaned in, his eyes narrowing slightly as he addressed Hyun-ki,

"Eun-tae, I understand your hesitation. What happened earlier was inexcusable, and I sincerely apologize for any discomfort I caused A-ri. My intentions are solely to support her artistic growth. You have my word that it will be a professional mentorship," Hyun-ki nodded, understanding Eun-tae's concerns.

"Eun-tae, I've always dreamt of furthering my art. This opportunity with Hyun-ki could be a significant step. But I'll only do it if you're comfortable with it," A-ri, her heart torn between ambition and caution, finally spoke, her voice filled with hope.

Eun-tae looked at A-ri, his love for her shining in his eyes. He knew how much her art meant to her, and he wanted to see her thrive. But he also couldn't ignore his duty as a husband to protect her.

"A-ri, if you believe this is the right path for your art, then I trust your judgment. We'll proceed but with a few conditions. First, the mentorship will remain professional and focused solely on your art. Second, I'll be closely involved in ensuring your well-being. And third, if at any point you feel uncomfortable, we'll reassess the situation," with a sigh, he finally spoke.

A-ri smiled, her heart filled with gratitude for her husband's support. Hyun-ki nodded in agreement, understanding the boundaries set for their new venture.

The dinner continued, now laced with a sense of understanding and a shared commitment to A-ri's artistic growth. It was a pivotal moment in their relationship, a step into uncharted territory where art, friendship, and trust intersected.

Eun-tae watched as A-ri headed towards their car, his gaze lingering for a moment on his wife before turning back to Hyun-ki. He gestured towards a more secluded corner of the restaurant patio and said.

"Hyun-ki, can we have a moment alone?"

Hyun-ki nodded, and they both moved to a quieter area, away from the prying eyes and ears of other diners. Eun-tae took a deep breath, preparing himself for a candid conversation with his old friend.

"Firstly," Eun-tae began, his voice firm. "I want to reiterate that this mentorship must remain professional. I understand your enthusiasm for A-ri's talent, but there's a line that should never be crossed."

"Eun-tae, I've already apologized for my behaviour earlier, and I genuinely meant it. I assure you, my interest in A-ri is purely for her art and nothing else. You have my word," Hyun-ki raised his hands in a placating gesture.

"Good. I'm going to trust you on this, but I'll be keeping a close eye on the situation," Eun-tae nodded, his expression unwavering.

"I appreciate your trust, Eun-tae. I won't let you down," Hyun-ki respected Eun-tae's protectiveness and understood the boundaries that needed to be maintained.

As the conversation eased into a more relaxed pace, Hyun-ki took a sip of his wine and leaned back in his chair. He looked at Eun-tae with a hint of sadness in his eyes.

"Eun-tae, I've made a name for myself in the art world. You must have heard about me, but I never expected to see you here."

"I've heard the name Gal Hyun-ki, but I had no idea it was you. Your choice to pursue art criticism was unexpected. We lost touch after college, and I didn't know where life took you," Eun-tae nodded, his gaze contemplative.

"You remember that time I dropped out of college? You were one of the few who saw me through that phase. I used the scholarship money I had to explore my interests, and here I am today," Hyun-ki's eyes held a glimmer of nostalgia as he spoke.

"I remember how you always had a thirst for something more, something beyond the usual routine. I never imagined you'd end up as a renowned art critic," Eun-tae recalled those days.

"It's been quite a journey. I found my passion in art and its interpretation. But, Eun-tae, I couldn't help but wonder why you never believed in me back then," Hyun-ki smiled wistfully.

"Hyun-ki, my heart always believed in your potential, your talent. But you have to understand that my mind was more practical. I couldn't predict your future, and I wanted to make sure I had a secure path," Eun-tae's brow furrowed, and he spoke earnestly.

"I get it now, Eun-tae. I was the dreamer, and you were the realist. We were always a bit different in that sense," Hyun-ki sighed, his shoulders relaxing.

"We were, and we both found our paths. I'm glad you've achieved your dreams, Hyun-ki," Eun-tae nodded, a sense of closure in their conversation.

Their conversation shifted to more pleasant memories from their college days, old friends catching up on the paths they had taken. The rekindling of their friendship held a promise of new beginnings and a unique bond forged not just through shared history but also through the ever-evolving journey of life.
