Chapter 38: The Soft Sell

I wipe my mouth off a few minutes after Jonathan has turned the sign to stop the meat-sword-wielding waiters and the cavalcade of meat. “If what you’re saying is right, then one of us could become a politician and influence people on a truly massive scale.”

He nods and shrugs in a way that makes me think that sort of thing has happened in the past. At least once. “That kind of public use would not end well, I think. There may not be limits to our reach, but there are certainly limits to our grasp.”

“Then why did you bring it up? The whole thing where my alpha power is getting me readership?”

“I was trying to illustrate a larger point,” he says. “To show you that there is so much you can do, so much more than you are aware of. And there may be things you can do that we never would have learned were possible. You are unique, Emily Constance, and incredibly important besides.”

“And so recruiting me would be a sort of coup?”
