Chapter 45: Just When They Think They Have Me

I’ve never met Connor in person before. But he insisted on being there for this whole thing. If there was such a thing for werewolves, this would be national news. I’m not the only new alpha. But I’m the first one to be questioned. If I pass, other packs may form. Smaller packs.

It might change the way things are done.

If I lose, it’ll reinforce the status quo. And even if my family wasn’t on the line, even if there wasn’t a chance that I’d lose my polycule along with my pack, I couldn’t let that happen.

I made sure that when Connor and I do meet, it will be outside, with plenty of wind to keep our scent away from one another. I don’t think I’m going to react badly, necessarily. But I do with Jonathan. Or I did until we shared a lot of food.

But when he walks up to me, I don’t feel the immediate anger. I also don’t feel that attraction that I always deny exists with Jonathan. I feel nervous like a dangerous predator just walked into my territory. But not angry or violent.
