Chapter 26: Strange Dreams

Holly's words stayed with me for far longer than I liked. Poor kid. It was hard enough for her to be in a daycare situation with dozens of other wolves, but to add to it the kind of power she was developing must be a massive burden. One I felt she was way too young to handle.

Evan came in later and stood at the door, waiting for the last parent to leave. I'd asked him to stop by because I might need the support. To his credit, he asked no questions.

Holly's parents often came late. Both worked outside the pack—her mom was a bank teller, and her dad worked in the local government. I couldn't remember his job, but he was a white-collar worker and often showed up in a suit and a faraway look. I bet he didn't remember what I told him about eighty percent of the day. If Holly was fine, he didn't ask any questions

Her mom came in first—a tall and pretty dark-haired shifter. Slim and neatly dressed, she smiled and held out her hand for Holly.
