Chapter 47: The Ultimatum

It was time to head outside and face the music. Cane stood at my back, his comforting presence itching at the back of my mind. Something had changed between us since our time at the camp, and the thread stretching between us was visible to me even without closing my eyes now.

Cane still hadn’t addressed it. A comforting stroke down the thread made me close my eyes as we stood there.

“It will be alright, Aspen. Pack deserves to know the truth of what they’re up against.”

I swallowed hard, opened the door, and stepped out into the cool evening air. My feet immediately stopped once I stepped onto the threshold.

Dozens and dozens of shifters sprawled all over the porch and the ground below.

“Oh,” I breathed.

“They’ve been here a while, all concerned about your health.”

The first one opened sleepy eyes. When they saw me, a happy yip burst from its mouth. Soon, all of them were awake and staring at me expectantly. Cane nudged one with his toe.
