Chapter 1- The divorce papers

I sat in Infront of the lounge looking back and forth at the paintings on the walls and the interior design worth more than a fortune. It has been a long time since I last visited this place.

"Mr. Rogers is here madam" stated one of his butlers who bowed at his entrance as Xavier walks into the longue wearing a smooth tossed. He looked like he had somewhere important to be.

He joins the closest seat next to me in a hurry before passing me a document.

"I need you to sign this" he voiced coldly and pointed at the bottom of the paper.

Rude, He could have at least said hello

"What is this?" I questioned as my eyes scanned through the papers.

The more I read it, the more I knew something didn't seem right. At first, I thought it was a letter, but it turned out to be divorce papers.

I looked up at Xavier who didn't look bothered, instead, shredded a resentful and cold look on his face.

"What do you mean by this?" I whispered in a lowered tone of frustration and confusion as I slapped the paper on the table in disbelief.

Was he going to divorce me because he knew the real reason married him in the first place?

Xavier and I were never really close from the start. We knew one another during a conference but we never really spoke. Even though our parents were friends and knew one another, we never made an impact to get to know each other even as we grew older.

But as time passed, I found myself falling deeply In Love with him. Even though he had no interest in me, I kept the feelings to myself until he decided to make a marriage proposal. It found that as an opportunity to get closer to him, but not for the right reasons.

Normally as married couples, everything is supposed to scream love, attention, and romance but between the both of us, it felt like we were just strangers in his house. The only time we come out of our rooms are only to eat, and get some fresh air, even at that, we barely run into one another in the hallways or the lounge. At times, i feel like it's just me in a huge mansion with nothing valuable to set my mind to. Everything just felt, Lonely.

So eventually, I've been trying my hardest to make just one valuable conversation with him but nothing ever works. His tight schedule and lack of attention always get in the way. Even when we do talk, it always gets serious like we were colleaques or he was a boss and i was a co worker. As for the times when we rarely talk, I'd barely see him come home. Even if he did, it was either late at night or extremely early in the morning like he had spend his night at someone's else's place.

Xavier and I never bonded much ever since we married, but I couldn't accept the termination. Not at this moment when my feelings were still lingering.

"I can't accept this. I am not going to sign this" I pushed the papers to his side of the table.

"Why not?" he narrowed his eyes confused.

"I know we haven't been bonding quite well but-" before I could even say, Xavier's eyes were instantly fixed on his watch like he was running out of patience.

"I don't have time for a mild talk Lisa. There's somewhere I need to be so just sign the papers so we can get it over with" He was about to get up when I stopped him by gripping his elbow.

"Why do you want to get this over with? Is there something I did wrong" I tore as unbeatable tears escaped my eyes.

Xavier was silent yet again. He looked at me curiously like he wanted to say something but he couldn't, instead, he released his elbow from my grip

"Sign the papers before I get back. You can leave it on the table. I'll give you your share of the money and the mansion is yours. Goodbye." He stated coldly while leaving the lounge.

It sounded like he truly meant it. Xavier had always been the serious type but this was the first time I took him seriously. My heart shattered hearing this and the next thing I found myself doing was chasing after him in the hallways yelling and calling out his name for an explanation.

I just couldn't understand why he could be this frail about this. The fact that he didn't even care made me even more frustrated.

"Why are you doing this?! You can't just ask for a divorce and expect me to sign it out of the blue!" I roared

"You are just so cruel and a terrible husband!" I continued but he just ignored me.

As he was about to exit the hall, the chandelier above him started shaking like it was about to fall. It was obvious that it was going to come down any second and the minute it started to leave the ceiling, I carelessly ran after him and screamed out his name

"XAVIER MOVE!"

Hearing me call out to him in a panicked tone caught his attention, and he turned in my direction as I instantly him pushed aside.

He landed on the ground and before I could move to safety, the chandelier came crashing down, and from there, everything began to fade.

The last thing I remembered was him and a bunch of maids running to my rescue and screaming 'Blood! Call the ambulance'

I couldn't understand what was happening until Xavier rushed in, swooped me in his arm, and called out my name panicked.

"Alisa! Alisa!"
