Chapter 9 : A walk

The next day, in the first hours of the afternoon, after Fischl was allowed to leave the Church, Mordred and her decided to go for a walk outside Mondstadt.

"So... You better?"

"Indeed, by virtue of the healing arts of the deaconess, I now am in prisine condition. I bestow upon thee my gratitude for thy concern."

"I guess we're a team now?"

"If thou still want so after my unsightly display of yesterday, it is gladly that this Prinzessin der Verurteilung welcomes you."

Fischl said that while playing with a strand of her hair, visibly nervous.

"Yeah, don't sweat it, you're not bad, and it's not like there was real danger. Just learn from your mistake and we'll be good."

A comfortable silence fell. As both knight and princess arrived near a grove, a certain talking bird whispered to the archer.

"Mein Fraulein, why don't you get a bit more acquainted with your new teammate? You might even make a third friend."

"This one knoweth this already, I am merely pondering on an appropriate subject."

"You can talk about your hobbies, your family, anything. Just say something milady."

"Sir Mordred, hast thou any siblings? This Prinzessin ist an only daughter."

"Siblings huh? Well, I got three brothers and a sister. All half siblings, though. Wanna hear about them?"

"It would be most delightful to do so."

"Let's see, there are Gawain, Gaheris and Agravain as my brothers and my sister's name is Gareth.

Gawain is a musclehead, always acting like everyone's big brother. Nicknamed the Knight of the Sun, he was one of the srongest at the round table, just behind the king and Lancelot. He's the one who taught me how to cook. We used to make many bets, but he won most of them.

About Gaheris, he looked almost the same as Gawain. We didn't talk much but he was almost as strong as Gawain. He was the first one to die, four years ago he ate a poisoned apple that was for Gawain.

Agravain of the Iron Hand was probably the outlier of my other siblings. While the others had more of a bright personality, he always had a scowl on his face. His loyalty to the king, however, was undeniable. He always advocated for a stricter rule from the king and he was the one to discover Lancelot's betrayal. This final revelation caused his death at Lancelot's hands.

Gareth was... unfortunate. She was too naive and kind for her own good. The newest at the round table and full of potential. Some said that given some time, she'd become the greatest knight. She learned everything from Lancelot, when he was still one of us. She held great admiration for him. All that respect was repaid with a crushed skull, even though she was unarmed and unarmored.

Even Gawain died. This time because of me, but I'd rather not talk about it. In the end, I'm the only one of us still alive, even if I should have died at the hill of swords."

"This... My condolences."

"Don't worry about it, I'm no stranger to death."

"And... do you have any hobbies?"

Hearing Fischl's attempt to change the subject, Mordred chuckles.

"Never really had time for those. But if I had to say, I like stories. I grew up reading novels about knights in shining armor, and even though I now know that it's just a load of bullshit, I still find myself reading some from time to time. You?"

"I too like partaking in a bit of literature. Would thou be interested in some of the Prinzessin's favorites?"

"Let's meet at the knight's headquarters' library some day, you'll show me what you recommend."

As the sun starts setting, both of them walk back to Mondstadt, their discussion uninterrupted.

Merry Christmas, y'all.

Here's a small chapter. No action today but some Mordred lore. I originally wanted to make a lighthearted and wholesome chapter but it became like that before I realized it. I would have made a Christmas special but we're too early in the story so probably next year.

If there are any mistakes, it's because I wrote it in one shot, in more or less two hours (that's very short for me so be mercyful please).

To talk about something quite different, this story will probably focus on the main team made of Mordred, Fischl, Lumine and I have yet to completely decide if Lumine's gonna have a love interest, but as of now, I'm thinking Furina (which will give me time to develop the main couple Mordred-Fischl, cause yeah, it's now official). So don't blame me if your favorite character doesn't appear.
