Immortality

23.

Walking in the cold wind, I felt that I had been so angry that I had said that kind of thing.

"Nicolas."

"I'm at your school gate," Nicolas spoke softly.

.

I sighed in relief and ran towards the school gate in surprise. Seeing that the doorman blocked me, I couldn't help saying, "I’m just here to see my friend. I won't go out."

The doorman nodded slightly and sat back in his chair.

"Why are you here at this hour?!" I was a little surprised.

.

Nicolas was wearing a black windbreaker, which was blown bulging by the wind, and his eyes under the mask were smiling brightly, "It's been a long time since I saw you. I can't wait to come and see you."

I couldn't help laughing and started chatting with Nicolas.

.

After chatting for a while, I heard a familiar snort behind me as well as Shepard's complaint.

"It's late at night. You’re asking me to stand in the cold wind with you? Dude, it’s cold at night. I'm wearing a shirt."

"Keep your voice down." Donald snorted.

.

I pursed my lips and unconsciously turned my eyes to Donald's back. Watching them walk away, I finally felt relieved and continued to chat with Nicolas. But gradually, Nicolas's attention shifted.

"May, does that person like you?" Nicolas raised his eyebrows and asked.

.

I glanced back at Donald, who was walking past, and couldn't help chuckling, "He can't like me. You’re overthinking things. He has many girlfriends."

.

It was just that now that the school was closed due to the epidemic, he couldn't get out. So he just made fun of me.

Nicolas said, "But he's been going around in circles since we met."

I froze.

Nicolas was afraid I wouldn't believe it.

After a while, Nicolas raised his chin towards me, and I turned my head tentatively.

.

As expected, Donald came again, looking at me, while Shepard was shivering from the cold beside him.

.

I was stunned.

I avoided Donald's eyes and looked at Nicolas, but Nicolas stared at Donald sharply. Nicolas turned to me and said softly, "May, come a little closer."

.

"What?" I thought it was too windy, and I was afraid I could not hear his words clearly, so I walked over naturally. But before I could say anything, Nicolas suddenly reached out to me as if trying to touch my head.

.

"No touching! No close contact!" The loudspeaker suddenly blared.

.

Startled, I turned my head to look over.

The doorman, with his arms akimbo, jumped up and yelled at Donald, "Hey, boy! Don't touch my loudspeaker!"

.

Lights shrouded the door of the security room.

Donald was holding a loudspeaker in his hand, completely ignoring the doorman who jumped up to grab it. Donald looked at me angrily, and continued, "No touching!"

.

I heard Nicolas's laughter, and I was a little embarrassed, "He… he just likes to mess around."

.

"Really?" Nicolas raised his eyebrows and looked at me lightly, "I hope he won't become my rival."

.

I suspected that I was hallucinating, "Nicolas…"

"I wanted to say this to you in person a long time ago, but the pandemic delayed it for too long," Nicolas spoke before I did.

.

I was stunned for two seconds and stared at him, "What’s wrong with you? I have always regarded you as my friend."

I suddenly couldn't associate Nicolas in front of me with the little boy who pulled my braid back then.

"Don't reject me so quickly." Nicolas smiled helplessly.

.

I said nothing.

"No touching!" Donald's voice was almost hoarse from the other side.

.

The doorman sighed, rushed over, and said to Nicolas, "Hey, you can go. Epidemic prevention and control. Pay attention."

Nicolas looked at me reluctantly.

I looked at him. Before I could speak, Nicolas got into the car as if fleeing.

Seeing the car disappear, I sadly said, "I don't want our relationship to change."

24.

"He's gone! Give my loudspeaker back, you little brat!" The doorman let out a roar.

.

I turned my head to look at Donald. He was 6.5 feet tall, and he was eye-catching when he was standing there. After the doorman took away the loudspeaker, Donald stood staring at me.

I walked towards him, actually wanting to go back to the dormitory. But when Donald saw me walking over, he immediately turned around angrily, and his pace was breakneck.

Only he and I were on this road, and those who didn’t know might think I was chasing him.

In the past, I would have chased after him to comfort him. But since I had given the money back to him, I was too lazy to care about him. Maybe I was slacking off.

I was not in a hurry, so I ambled.

However, it suddenly began to rain after I only took a few steps.

The cold rain fell on my neck, and it was chilly. I ran back to the dormitory in a hurry.

"May!" Donald rushed towards me quickly, biting his collar, and unzipped his coat.

.

.

I wanted to avoid him and run on my own, but his legs were longer than mine, and he walked up to me in a few steps, sheltering me from the rain with his coat.

In an instant, I detected his distinct scent.

.

"The boys' dormitory is near. You can go back now." I walked very fast.

.

"I'll take you back."

Donald followed me relentlessly, and I could feel my arms touching his abdominal muscles. Compared with the rain, they were burning hot.

"No need." I resolutely refused. I just wanted to escape quickly and get rid of the rapid heartbeat.

.

"You’re lying!" Donald interrupted me eagerly and said in a low voice, "Your stomach hurts, and it might get worse if you catch a cold. Now, because of the epidemic, you can't buy cold medicine."

.

I froze.

I had to admit that what he said was very reasonable, but I didn't want to answer at all. I quickened my pace, and I was practically running.

"I know you are angry with me. Tell me, what can I do to make you not angry?

"You teach me, and I will learn.

"You chatted so happily with that guy. Can't you say a word to me?"

Donald talked until we approached the girls' dormitory building.

I frowned, "He's my friend."

Donald said, "What about me?"

I said, "What do you think, boss?"

Donald fell silent.

Donald stopped suddenly.

Our eyes met.

I didn't know if there were raindrops on the glasses. But I knew that Donald felt aggrieved. But I didn't want to stay another second, so I quickly ran towards the dormitory building.

"May! When I knew you liked me-"

I didn't want to listen to him anymore, so I kept running.

"I was so happy! I don't know why you suddenly tore up the drawings, but I think you drew me handsome! I'm so happy!"

I froze.

I slowed down.

Donald panted and ran to me, looking at me through the faint light, "I like those drawings a lot. May, I seem to like-."

"Who taught you this?" I interrupted him, only to feel that the rain's coolness had dissipated, replaced by coldness.

.

Donald was stunned, "Do I need someone to teach me?"

With a cold face, I said in a deep voice, "You’re acting much more real this time than last time. When the epidemic is lifted, you can consider becoming an actor in the entertainment industry."

"What are you talking about?" Donald looked at me blankly.

.

I raised my eyebrows, "The last time we went to the movie, you and Shepard bet on two whiskey bottles. What is the stake this time?"

Donald looked at me in astonishment.

"It’s not like that this time..."

"Hey, don't flirt at the door of the dormitory. Your counselor is coming to make ward rounds today." The superintendent shouted.

.

I ran back to the dorm.

I was running from the dimness to the indoor light. I was very glad that I didn't feel secretly happy like before this time, but I couldn’t help feeling sad.

25.

Standing tremblingly at the door of the dorm, as soon as I opened the door, I saw the counselor standing on the balcony and poking his head over the railing. When he saw me coming back, his face changed slightly.

"During the epidemic, don't run around." The counselor said vaguely.

.

My heart skipped a beat. I vaguely guessed that he might have seen me and Donald.

As expected, as soon as the counselor left, my roommate hurriedly got up and closed the door, shouting, "God, I think the whole building heard Donald roaring!"

.

I was stunned.

I froze, "Really?"

It might be the rain, but I didn't think it was deafening.

"Really! The counselor was rounding the ward, and I heard Donald yelling! Oh my god, Donald didn't mean it, did he?" My roommate blinked and asked curiously.

.

I laughed, "Baby, you said the same thing when he gave another girl a necklace last time."

"Well, right. It was a very expensive necklace after all." My roommate shrugged and sighed, "But when I heard him yelling just now, I thought he was serious."

.

I sighed slightly and smiled.

Donald had never been sincere with any girls. I’d been fooled once, and I wouldn’t allow myself to fall for it again.

26.

After I got out of the shower, I got a call from Nicolas.

.

He sounded sincerely concerned, "I saw that it's raining in your area. You didn’t get caught in the rain, did you?"

I rubbed my hair with a towel, smiled, and said, "It's okay. I took a hot bath."

As soon as I said that, my roommate looked at me quietly, and I made a shush gesture toward her. She smiled and went to play games with her earphones on.

.

"That's good." Nicolas sighed and said slowly, "I feel quite sad now, though."

.

"What?" I was a little confused, and smiled, "What are you sad about?"

.

"I’m sad that I can't be the one for you." Nicolas sounded serious.

.

I suddenly felt my heart tense, and I was embarrassed, "Don't talk nonsense."

Nicolas said, "Just a feeling."

I said, "If you do this again, I'll hang up."

"Don't." Nicolas stopped and said in a low voice, "I hope this pandemic will pass quickly."

.

I nodded slightly, chatted for a while, and hung up the phone.

I also hoped that the crisis would pass quickly so that there would be some buffer space and Donald would be distracted instead from pursuing me.

Knock!

There suddenly came a knock on the door.

My roommate got up quickly and rushed over to open the door, "Wow! My snacks!"

.

"There is a pack of snacks for May." The voice of the delivery man came from the door.

.

I was stunned for a moment and I poked my head to look. My roommate was carrying a bag of snacks, and her eyes lit up, "Wow, there's caviar! Donald is amazing!"

I froze.

My roommate looked at a folder inside and read the post-it note on it. It was my name May.

"Damn! It's Donald’s love letter, right?" My roommate was surprised.

.

I pursed my lips and opened the file.

It was a drawing.

I couldn't bear to look at it. The head of the person in the drawing was a sketch, and the body was a stickman. Maybe he couldn't draw it and felt annoyed, so he wrote his name "Donald" as the signature, almost tearing the paper.

Unfortunately, I saw the black-rimmed glasses and Donald's signature. Not surprisingly, it was me in the picture.

.

.

My roommate couldn't help laughing.

I didn't want to laugh at first. But after holding back for two seconds, I laughed angrily, "What the hell is this?"

My roommate couldn't straighten up with laughter, "Oh, it’s cracking me up."

My phone suddenly rang.

I glanced at the caller ID. My roommate bit her lips to suppress the laughter and beckoned me to pick it up.

As soon as I answered it, I heard cries on the other end of the phone, "I know you haven't finished the drawing. What I gave you is a draft!"

.

"Damn!"

"Hey, I'm calling to ask for it back, okay?"

It seemed that Shepard was running. I could imagine that Donald was chasing after him with a broom.

I was shocked.

My roommate was laughing hysterically. I felt speechless, so I could only hang up the phone.

I sighed.

Whenever I thought that Donald irritated me to the extreme, he would go even further.

He should thank God for giving him such a handsome face and a wealthy family. Otherwise, he would have been beaten up quite often.
