My stepmother was efficient. In just three days, the wedding was ready.
I heard she bought another couple's wedding schedule at a high price and even used thier wedding planner.
We didn't even have time to get our marriage license.
I was pleased, but Jonathan got suspicious and asked his mother if she was up to something.
My stepmother looked at me with a smile and took my hand. "What bad intentions can I have? I just want you to be a couple as soon as possible."
I held her hand and said, "Thank you, Mom."
Jonathan's doubts were not dispelled. He excused himself and dragged his mother outside.
When he came back, he didn't look well. The cold light from the entrance lit his face. He took my hand and whispered, "Shirl, you really want to marry me, don't you?"
I looked at him quietly for a moment and said, "Yes, I do."
"Shirl." He pressed me against the wall with tears in his eyes. "I love you enough to die for you."
