Chapter 8

Rubie's POV

We're just done having breakfast and I notice dad isn't getting up to leave for work as he normal, hell I'm just noticing he doesn't have his work clothes on.

"Dad, are you on leave?" I ask with a questioning look as Ryan and my mom clear the dishes

"Well, yeah. I finished up my work really early yesterday to spend time with you so I told them I'm taking a leave for the weekend...but I still get to work online" he says going to the living room. Mom and Ryan go to freshen up, so that we can open the restaurant while dad and I are talking in the living room.

We open the restaurant and by we I mean all of us, it's the first time I've seen dad open the restaurant with us and I'm sure it's the first time he has.

I notice that in the morning time there aren't much customers but as we head into the afternoon/evening time, people start flooding the place. My mom tells me that this usually happens on weekends and it's amazing, we make varieties of meals and Bri also comes to give us a hand. She really is into Ryan full time yeah, Ryan introduces her to our dad and he's more than happy to meet her, everything is just going great and I'm taking a moment to take in all the rush because by 10:00pm I'll boarding an expense paid ticket to South Korea and be facing a whole different life. I just came to know this one and once again fate plays a fast one on me and it's snatched away sigh, I know it's for the best though.

It's 7:00pm when we close the restaurant and reality starts setting in, I'm leaving soon. Bri stays for dinner, mom is cooking while I'm in my room packing the little clothing I used during my stay here, good thing I washed yesterday. I'm still going through my stuff when someone knocks, "come in" I say

"Hey, sis"

"Ryan, what's up"

"Well, I just came to make sure you were done packing and to tell you that dinner is ready" he says sitting on my bed

"Ohh, yeah I'm done. I'll be down soon" I say smiling

"I also came to give you this" he says pulling out a necklace

"Awwww, thanks" I take it from him

"Yeah, it's identical to the one you gave me when we were moving to Canada and you where going to Cali that I cried. Remember what you said to console me, 'no matter where you go, always remember home. How isn't the structure or building but the people that make you comfortable and keep you safe, you, mom, dad are my home' remember" he says quoting exactly what I said

"Yeah I remember" I smile looking at him

"So don't cry and feel sad because your home is always there for you" he says hugging me, it lasts for a while but I move back and say

"Yeah, I know but it's all too real. I mean, US and Canada aren't far away from each other but Korea is like very very far. And I won't see you people in a year and some months, like..." I trail off trying not to cry

"... I'll miss you guys" I finish laughing

"We'll miss you too big sis" he says smiling

"Since you've packed all your stuff, come on let's go eat. I don't want to be hungry at the airport" he laughs stretching out his hands which I take and laugh.

Dinner is amazing, I mean it's just a bunch of unconventional junk food and wine so the food is nothing special but it's the people that are amazing. FYI I love my brother's girlfriend, she isn't just beautiful and blonde but also very smart and don't get me started on her sense of humor, she and my dad I've been having a battle of whose jokes are the best and she is winning, they're dad jokes but they crack you up.

After dinner, the clock say's 8:00pm, so I and my family go and dress up for the airport. I put on a black top and gray sweatpants with a gray hoodie and a denim jacket tied around my waist, a white sneakers and a cross body bag. Bags in hand I walk downstairs and find my family and Bri waiting for me. Bri walks up to me

"Well this is goodbye for now, you know when Ryan always talked about his big sis and how beautiful and awesome she was, nobody believed him. Thank God you came, now I can testify that you're as amazing as he said. It was nice meeting you but can I take a picture with you as proof" she says slinging a hand around my shoulder

"Of course, show them that you met yours truly and my brother is perfectly fine" I say laughing as she clicks the camera taking a selfie of us

"I'm sorry I can't see you off formally, I have to get home or my mom will file a missing persons report" she smiles as we hug one last time and Ryan walks her out.

Before we leave my dad says a small prayer as we hold hands asking for journey mercies and favour where ever I find myself and it just brings back all those years when we took big steps and my dad will pray every step of the way that we achieve what we aspire to do, if it's an exam we pray, a position at work, pray, opening a new chapter, pray, traveling, pray. I was just like a tradition that was absorbed in my family and it has always worked. Even in school I didn't stop it.

The ride to the airport was long and my family stayed behind me as I checked in my stuff and all...then my bags were sent to the plane while they told me to wait for my plane to arrive.

I took another 1 hour before the plane arrived so I had to leave by 11:00pm instead of 10 and was so exhausting. I tell my family the final goodbye leaving my mom tears and make my way to the plane.

I bring out neck pillow and pop a gum I heard it helps to keep you balance to stop the eye spinning, I put my seatbelt on and prepare for take off. Once the plane is levelled I send a quick text to my family group chat saying that I'll get back to them when I land then switch off my phone. The person sitting next to me tries to start up a topic but I just plug in my airpods and cover my body with a blanket I pack, sitting up I fall asleep and world drowns out around me.
