Just one week in jail seemed like eternity for Jacob. The prison walls bore marks of years of neglect, the corridors were dimly lit, mosquitoes were the tiniest of neighbors and a stench emanated from the filthy toilet in Jacob's cell. Jacob's cellmate was a man in his late forties. According to him, he was unlawfully sentenced to ten years in prison for an act of rape he did not commit. While Jacob was unsure of his story because of his stoic look, Jacob didn't care as he was already so miserable that he felt closer to the grave than no other time in his life.
The warden opened Jacob's cell and said, "you have a visitor". Jacob followed the warden to the visitation room where he met his sister.
"Good afternoon", Itohan greeted.
"Afternoon. How are you doing? How is mom and dad?", Jacob inquired.
"Well, everyone is alive so I guess we're good. What happened to your face? Were you beaten?", Itohan questioned.
