Xiao Zhe, Xu Hua, and the others returned to the camp with half a piece of dog meat. Despite losing a few companions, the hundred pounds of dog meat was considered a very decent trophy.
The people in the camp had long been ready to stew the dog meat.
After bandaging their wounds, Xiao Zhe and another person sat together.
"Xu Hua, what do you think of Yang Xiao?" Xiao Zhe asked.
Xu Hua thought for a moment and said:
"Yang Xiao is much more formidable than I imagined. His strength, speed, and reaction ability all seem to exceed ours. Also, what is that black long sword he carries? I have never seen such a sword."
"Yes, he actually stabbed the Black Dog with a single thrust of his sword, and even managed to slice it in half. You know my mutated Wolf Claw is sharp, right? I can only scratch the Black Dog's skin and can't even penetrate its body."
"Objectively speaking, we were lucky to have him today. Otherwise, the two of us might not be able to sit here right now."
Xiao Zhe and Xu Hua looked at each other and nodded.
Xiao Zhe fell silent for a moment before saying:
"For now, let's not make an enemy of Yang Xiao. In two days, Earth's creatures will have completed their mutations, and at that time, there may be a large number of mutated creatures attacking us. Today's Black Dog was already so fierce; there may be even more formidable mutated creatures."
"Hmm, I agree with you. Let's get through this period first. According to Gu Bo from the Genetic Store, once Earth's creatures have completed their mutations, we can hunt mutated creatures to obtain Genetic Fragments to enhance our own potential. By then, we should quickly elevate ourselves, and once we can control the situation, we can settle our personal grievances."
Xiao Zhe's group temporarily went to the ruins of the academy to find some large pots and stewed all hundred-plus pounds of dog meat.
...
Yang Xiao, besides the dog bones, also stewed about thirty pounds of dog meat, aiming for each person to have a pound of meat. The remaining eighty to ninety pounds were salted and soaked in several buckets of water, ready to be hung up to dry the following day.
Huang Wen's side had a more complete set of spices, and many of the dinosaur girls had been cooks at home; they added salt, ginger, and garlic to the dog meat soup. One girl was even lucky enough to find two large pieces of cinnamon in the ruins, breaking off a few small pieces to put into the pot of dog meat.
After half an hour of simmering, the fragrance wafted through the air, and after another hour of stewing, the aroma of the dog meat became even more intense.
Gu Bo sat behind the Genetic Store, sniffing the increasingly strong aroma of dog meat in the air, he couldn't help but sneeze.
"Achoo!"
It's so delicious!
"Heh heh, old Gu, come have a bowl of dog meat soup. I guarantee it tastes better than yesterday's eel soup."
Gu Bo looked at Yang Xiao, swallowed, and laughed awkwardly:
"I shouldn't take what I have not earned. Your food supplies are so tight; it wouldn't be right for me to eat your food for nothing. Plus, I can't give you any more weapons."
"Ah, don't talk like that, it makes us strangers. You're invited to eat for free, with no strings attached. Come on."
Gu Bo's eyes narrowed into slits.
"So, I can really go?"
"Of course. What's the big deal about a bowl of dog meat soup?"
"Alright."
Gu Bo stepped out from behind the counter and nonchalantly performed some action, and instantly, a pale blue screen sealed off the entire counter.
As he left the Genetic Store, Yang Xiao glanced at the two tower-like guards at the gate and said:
"Why not also bring our two samurai heroes along for a bowl of soup?"
In Yang Xiao's memory, these two samurai were almost always on guard at the entrance, without eating, drinking, or resting. Could they really handle that?
Gu Bo chuckled and waved his hand:
"No need, the two of them don't need to go. It's enough that I go."
Not wanting to insist, Yang Xiao brought Gu Bo to the camp.
Thirty girls gathered around the large pot of stewed dog meat, chatting and laughing while saliva dripped from their mouths at the tantalizing scent of the dish, with many girls incessantly asking when they could eat.
"Huang Wen sis, when can we finally eat? My stomach has been growling for a while now."
"I'm already full, just on drool alone."
Seeing Yang Xiao and Gu Bo approach, everyone immediately made room for two more.
Yang Xiao glanced at Huang Wen and asked,
"Is it about time? Can we start now?"
"Umm, just a few more minutes, Feifei and Chen Lu will be right back, okay?"
"Ah, what did they go off to do?"
"You'll see in a moment."
Huang Wen replied with a mysterious smile.
Yang Xiao had no choice but to sit down with old man Gu Bo, who kept his eyes on the large pot of stewed dog meat, licking his lips as steam rose continuously.
Minutes later, Feifei and Chen Lu returned, Chen Lu cradling a flowerpot in her arms.
Yang Xiao was taken aback, wondering why they would be bothered about a flowerpot at a time like this, and showing off after just having a full meal?
However, as Chen Lu approached with the flowerpot, Yang Xiao also found himself getting excited.
As it turned out, the flowerpot wasn't planted with flowers but with green onions.
Huang Wen proudly declared:
"A few days ago, when everyone was searching for food amongst the ruins of the teachers' families' living quarter, they saw several pots of green onions that had been planted by the teachers. We didn't pay attention to it then, but suddenly remembered, so I sent Chen Lu and Feifei to fetch them."
Yang Xiao gave her a thumbs-up immediately.
Huang Wen picked several green onion stalks from the pot, washed them in water, cut them into small pieces, and sprinkled them into the large cauldron. The already rich aroma of the dog meat was now accompanied by the refreshing scent of green onions.
"It's ready, we can eat now."
At Huang Wen's command, three girls immediately started dishing out stewed dog meat with large spoons, while over thirty iron bowls had already been set aside.
Huang Wen was the first to serve two generous bowls of the dog meat and soup, handing them to Yang Xiao and Gu Bo.
Gu Bo took the bowl, laughing heartily.
"I won't be shy then."
"Go ahead, eat. Why be polite?"
Yang Xiao said.
Gu Bo opened his mouth and a piece of dog meat flew right in; he chewed vigorously, praising constantly as he ate,
"Mmm, delicious, so good!"
Yang Xiao had a sip of the soup and a piece of meat, indeed it was savory, and even more delicious than the dog meat they usually had.
The thirty girls each held a bowl and started gobbling down their food, completely indifferent to maintaining a ladylike image, devouring it as though starved.
On the outside of the tents, dozens of hungry people stood, swallowed continually at the tempting smell of the dog meat, yet not daring to take a few steps closer.
Everyone on the playground had witnessed the courageous scene of Yang Xiao hunting the Black Dog today, a beast that Xiao Zhe and others could not kill, and Yang Xiao had slain it with a single sword strike; who would dare to come over and seek death?
The dog meat might be aromatic, but life is more valuable.
Huang Wen, being a girl, kind-hearted and tender, glanced at the few dozen people on the outside, then looked at Yang Xiao.
Yang Xiao said indifferently,
"Have you forgotten the days when you had no food to eat? Who was willing to bestow upon you even a single biscuit? Also, remember, it would be good if even half of the people on this playground manage to survive. If any of you are willing to give up the food in your bowl, you can give it to your classmates or friends that you know, but you can't share everybody's food with others."
