Chapter 17 : Fighting Feelings

*Jack*

I had been up for several hours responding to emails and overseeing virtual meetings. I sipped my cold coffee and rolled my neck. I was stiff from the uncomfortable chair, but I still had some data that needed to be reviewed. I heard a door open and paused. I looked up from my computer screen when I heard footsteps approaching. I frowned when Matt’s grinning face came into view.

He’d taken the entire summer off to dedicate to debauchery and romping around like a pup, so I hadn’t expected to see much of him. Yet here he was again, interrupting my work. At least Reid had the decency not to abandon his responsibilities while we were here. He was working remotely, just as I was.

I could tell what he’d done by his scent. There was a subtle shift to it. So subtle that I likely wouldn’t have noticed if I didn’t know Matt so well. I should have known he’d need the warning more than Reid. Damned impulsive fool.
