Chapter 23 : Jack's Undivided Attention

*Kenna*

Jack was actually insanely wealthy, it turned out. When he said that he had a second office in the city, I thought it was just an office space that he rented from a complex. This was a twenty-story skyscraper, the top floor of which was Jack’s private office. I shook my head in disbelief as he led me through the lobby and toward the elevator.

“It’s really quiet in here,” I commented.

The building was massive, but there was no sound except for the low hum of the air conditioner. Most of the lights were off, which made it feel a little eerie.

“The building is pretty much empty,” he said. “It’s the weekend, so only the security staff are required to be here.” He punched in a code at the elevator and the doors opened.

“What exactly do you need to do?” I asked as I stepped inside.

He stood beside me and sighed. “I have to respond to an email, but I need data that’s only accessible through our offline systems.”
