Chapter 50 : A New Future

We watched in horror as Blaise moved to sink his teeth into Aunt Adelaide’s shoulder. There was movement from all of the assembled warriors, but none of them would reach them in time to stop him. Juniper covered her eyes and turned away, but I couldn’t bring myself to divert my eyes.

Aunt Adelaide’s left hand shot up and over her shoulder. Her freshly manicured fingernails jabbed into Blaise’s eyes. He screamed in pain and reared back, but he was held in place by the porch railing. Aunt Adelaide dug her nails in until blood began to flow down her fingers. Blaise grabbed his face and crumpled to the ground. Slowly, gracefully, Aunt Adelaide stepped away from him and toward Uncle Alex.

The crowd of warriors was still and stared in shock as Blaise cursed and writhed on the ground. Aunt Adelaide held her bloodied hand out to Uncle Alex. Without missing a beat, he pulled a handkerchief from his suit coat and began to wipe the blood from her hand.
