Chapter 17 : Rogue Territory

*Wren*

“What happened?” Amaya asked, her voice full of fear as she frantically packed her sleep sack. “What was that?”

I didn’t want to alarm her but she was right, she had every right to know. I took a deep breath. “It was a rogue,” I said gruffly as I threw on a new outfit. I wrapped my wounded arm in the scraps of my old shirt, careful to not let Amaya see my injury.

I smiled to myself, ignoring the pain in my arm because I caught her checking me out. She was not subtle. Not even a little bit. The pain in my arm was nothing I couldn’t handle after that.

“A rogue?” I heard a slight tremble in her voice. “Are there many around here?”

I quickly finished packing up the remainder of our camp. “Look, you have nothing to be afraid of but we do need to keep moving.” She nodded her head. “There’s a small village a few miles from here, hopefully, we can make it by lunch.”
