Elon smiles at her nervously. “Do you like it? I know you just left, but I thought you might be feeling a little homesick.”
Elon is right. A few months ago, if someone suggested that she come back, she would have been furious. But the time she’s spent with Elon has healed a lot of the resentment she had toward her home country.
It was never Colombia she ran away from, just the people in it.
Mia smiles. “Thank you, this is incredibly thoughtful.”
“I’ve been meaning to ask, ” Elon starts uncertainly. “Why did you leave in the first place? You don’t have to tell me if you aren’t ready to talk about it."
Mia shrugs. “No, I want to. It just isn’t the most pleasant story.”
Elon grabs her hand and squeezes it gently, giving her the comfort she needs to go through all of it again.
Mia takes a deep breath and looks at the distance, her mind drifting back to the past.
