Chapter 13: Words war.

Kiara's Pov.

Enrico led me to his room, but as soon as we entered, an argument ensued. I was about to sleep in his bed with him when he stopped me.

"Sleeping together doesn't mean having sex, Kiara. I don't want you to think that this is going to be a regular thing," he said, his tone cold. I felt hurt and embarrassed.

"I know that, Enrico. I just want to be close to you," I said, trying to hide my disappointment. His expression softened when he saw my face.

"I'm sorry, Kiara. I just don't want to give you the wrong idea. We're married for convenience, not for love," he said. I swallowed hard and held back my tears.

"I understand, Enrico. You can sleep outside if you don't want to sleep here with me." I said, my voice slightly shaking. I took the pillow and the bed sheet from the wardrobe and gave them to him. I mean, he is the man, so he should be the one sleeping, right?

"You seem to have forgotten that this is my room; am I wrong? You can either sleep on the floor or go outside; I don't care; just don't come close to the bed." He said it, and I could only laugh at him.

"Sleeping on one bed doesn't mean we would have sex now, am I right? Or if we shared a bed, would you be betraying Kate? I don't care anyways; here, take this," I gave him the sheets again. Sleep wherever you want to; it's your choice anyway, but I will be sleeping in this room or this very bed. Let me see you stop me." I eyed him and laid down on the bed.

After a while of looking at me, he took the pillow and sheets from me and walked out of the room.

I couldn't hold it in anymore. I burst into tears as soon as he left the room. I cried myself to sleep, feeling rejected and alone. Why does everyone hate me? I was never loved in my past life, and I am I loved in this life. He asked to sleep with me, but I didn't, so what happened?

The next morning, Enrico and his knights retrieved Marquis Noah's body from where they found him. After the autopsy was done, they found out that he was killed by wind and earth ability users.

I was devastated. My father didn't deserve to die this way. I couldn't bear the thought of him being buried outside, so I asked Enrico if he could be buried in our palace.

Kate and Lou refused at first, but after two days of discussing it, I finally convinced them to let me cremate my father's body and keep his ashes in our palace.

I couldn't bear the thought of letting him go and allowing him to be buried in a place where I couldn't visit him whenever I wanted to.

Enrico was there to comfort me during those trying times. He held me when I cried and listened to me when I ranted about my father's death and the people who caused it.

I couldn't help but think that maybe, just maybe, he cared for me in some way. But then again, he was just fulfilling his duty as a husband, wasn't he?

After the cremation, I found solace in my ability training. I promised myself that I would become stronger and protect those who mattered to me. I will never let them be taken away from me again!

As I practiced my abilities, I couldn't help but think about Enrico. He was slowly warming up to me, but was it enough? Did he see me as more than just a convenience?

Only time will tell. For now, all I can do is focus on my training and try to be the best wife I can be.

But things took a turn when Kate came to me while I was training and blurted out, "Stay away from Enrico and stop playing weak to get him close to you!" I couldn't believe what I was hearing—was she really accusing me of trying to seduce my own husband?

"Excuse me?" What are you even talking about? I asked, feeling a twinge of anger in my chest.

"Don't play dumb, Kiara. I know what you're doing. You're trying to get close to Enrico so that he'll fall for you. But let me tell you, it's not going to work. Enrico is a loyal man; he would never betray me," Kate retorted.

I couldn't believe the audacity of this woman to accuse me of something so baseless. "You're delusional, Kate. I have no interest in your husband; he is my husband. And even if I did, I wouldn't stoop so low as to try and steal him from you," I said, my voice rising with every word.

We were in the middle of a heated argument when we heard a voice say, "What's going on?"

We turned around to see Enrico standing there with anger etched on his face. We both froze, not knowing what to say or do. Enrico has been watching us the whole time!

"What's going on here?" he asked, his gaze shifting between Kate and me.

Kate was the first to answer, "I caught Kiara trying to seduce you, Enrico. I had to warn her to back off," she said, sticking to her accusation like it was the truth.

I couldn't believe what I was hearing; this was getting out of hand. "That's not true, kate. She would never do something like that," he said.

Enrico's gaze softened as he turned to me and said, "I trust you, Kiara. I know you wouldn't do something like that. And Kate, I don't appreciate you throwing baseless accusations around. Kiara is my wife, and I expect you to treat her with respect," he said, his voice firm and commanding.

I was quite surprised he was busy fighting with his supposed girlfriend for his rejected wife; this is funny.

"What respect?" I didn't notice when Kate took a stick from the floor and struck it right in my face.

"Ah!"
