I looked at him with spite before asking, "what do you want?"

"Well, well, I see you're quite happy with yourself for answering a few questions," he said as he grabbed my English textbook, slipping through the pages. "Am here to wipe off that triumphant look you had earlier."

Saying those words, he then tore my text book into two equal halves. I gasped. What has he done?

He threw the textbook at me. "Now, that's the kind of expression I like to see."

Later on, after we finished our assignments, Mr. Cowell took us to a restaurant and treated us to a scrumptious meal. The food was so delicious that by the end of the meal, we were all overly full and reluctant to leave the restaurant. Even Mr. Cowell's promise of getting us ice cream as a bribe couldn't motivate us to move.

However, when my mom called, informing us that she was home already that was enough to energize us and get us ready to leave the restaurant.

As we arrived home, Mom greeted us with a warm smile, her presence signaling the end of a somewhat eventful day. She thanked Mr. Cowell profusely for looking after us and bid Lily goodbye with a peck on the cheek. After they left, Mom reminded us about the unopened gifts I had received at school earlier that morning, and we immediately delved into them with excitement.

Despite Isabel and my excitement over the gifts, I couldn't help but notice that Mom wasn't as enthusiastic as she usually was.
