Chapter 256: Unimportant

Outside the Blair's residence, James Anderson held Helen Blair tightly in his arms.

His embrace, strong and powerful, betrayed pain and determination. Helen could feel this, her heart aching and swelling.

His tenderness was so precious, once the only warmth in her life. How she wished she could hold on to it. She knew that just a single response from her and he would shoulder everything, fighting tirelessly for her.

But she couldn't make any promises. She couldn't guarantee she'd always put his family's interests first. Sebastian Carter was still firmly entrenched in the Blair Group, and who could guarantee that their future struggle wouldn't affect his family's interests and reputation? Who could assure her that he wouldn't risk his prospects to protect her as he did last time when she encountered danger? And who could promise she would safely see her 24th birthday?
