Chapter 273: Three Cobblers

Helen Blair had been staying in the cargo hold of the large truck all along, with the vehicle moving day and night. The gangsters had placed a container outside the hold, presumably to cope with inspections. But Helen had no idea if they had been inspected at all, because she and Reuben Carter had been groggy, sleeping more than they were awake. When she realized that they had been drugging their food, she refused to eat. They couldn't stay unconscious all the time; how else would they think of a way to escape?

But if she didn't eat, the thugs would force her to, or make her drink water if she didn't eat. They seemed determined not to let her be clear-headed. Helen knew she couldn't defy them, so to suffer less, she had to eat the drugged food. When they were awake, a woman would come up with a basin to help them with their needs, but because the woman wouldn't tear off the tape from their mouths, Helen couldn't get anything out of her.
