Chapter 285: Heartache

The gangsters were getting closer and closer.

Helen Blair looked around and saw that it was too late to rush to the woods in front. She spotted a small mound of dirt nearby that might provide some cover from bullets. She helped Oliver Hoffman up, and walked to the other side of the mound, followed closely by Reuben Carter.

After Oliver sat down, he quickly took off his scarf and tightly wrapped his wound to stop the bleeding. He noticed Helen pulling out a gun from her jacket and exclaimed in surprise, "You have a gun?"

Helen poked her head out and fired a shot in the direction of the approaching gangsters. It was her first time shooting a gun, and the bullet's trajectory was a bit off. However, it was enough to startle the gangsters, who hesitated and took cover.
