Helen Blair stayed silent as she listened, having guessed what Evelyn Martin might say before she came. Despite being mentally prepared, hearing these words still left her with a sigh of emptiness.
She gently said: "Auntie, you're worried unnecessarily. I have already broken up with James Anderson, and I have no intention of reconciling with him. I believe that after these incidents, he will also let go."
Evelyn was taken aback. She had just seen the two navigating through life-and-death situations and had observed Helen's persistence and tenacity towards James. She'd thought that Helen would continue to persist, to plead painfully for their approval and acceptance. She and Grandma had even agreed not to compromise no matter which path Helen chose, in order to ensure James's future happiness. However, she didn't expect Helen to demonstrate this attitude, which caught her by surprise.
