-Night Time-

-Third Person POV-

Midnight, after a grueling day at the office, Shikaku could barely summon the energy to put one foot in front of the other. All he wanted now was to collapse onto his bed like a sack of bricks.

Upon entering his home, he exhaled a weary sigh and announced, "I'm home."

Yoshino greeted him with a warm smile, having met him at the very sound of the front door's key turning. "Welcome home, dear."

"You didn't have to wait for me, you know... Are Shikamaru and Akira asleep?" Shikaku's mood lifted slightly at the sight of his wife waiting up for him so late into the night.

"Yeah, they are. Akira only recently came back from his last training session with Makoto, getting briefed on his mission or so Akira told me." She replied, her face complicated.

"What's wrong?" Shikaku asked, his eyes narrowed in slight concern.

Yoshino sighed, "Let's talk about this in the living room, I can't have you standing after a long day."

"I'd appreciate that," Shikaku replied with a smirk.

At that, they leisurely made their way to the sofa in the Living room as they sat down.

Shikaku expertly cloaks all his weariness for the sake of calming his wife's worries - Whatever they are.

"So, talk to me." He said patiently.

"It's just... You know how I dislike Makoto add to the fact he's going on that darned trip tomorrow with Eiichi... He's too young to experience this, he's only 8 Shikaku. He's part of the new generation, he doesn't have to do this." Yoshino in a rare showing of weakness admitted her Motherly woes to her Husband.

Shikaku took in her worries and heaved a deep sigh, "I know, I don't like Makoto either myself. Nevertheless, his skills and teachings are not to be undervalued. You know just as well as I do what Akira now means to the Nara Clan, and soon to the Leaf Village as a whole. According to Eiichi's and Makoto's notes and observations of the kid. His Skills are already Fresh Minted Genin level. That's not taking into account his Kekkei Genkai nor his Assassination specialization. If Eiichi is with him on the trip, you don't have to worry. Eiichi is perhaps the only one other than us who wouldn't risk the boy's safety unless necessary." He explained thoroughly.

Yoshino took the information in and her face began to show frustration, "I get all that... But there is no need to force him to do this is there? I'm proud of him that he's this competent at such an age, more akin to our generation than the current more pampered one. But a Bandit Extermination mission that came out of who knows where? Now? He isn't ready Shikaku." She shook her head at the last sentence.

Shikaku said with a small smile, "No one forced him into this. I have asked Akira multiple times, whether it was continuing with Makoto's training after their first meeting or this mission. He's accepted the training and the Mission - Specifically the mission as long as he doesn't have to eliminate the innocent. The boy wishes to be strong, Dear. It's my job as his Father to help him achieve his goal, the boy isn't naive you know this."

Yoshino took a moment to absorb the explanation as she sighed deeply, "I know... I just can't help but worry... Do you think Hikari would have reacted this way about him?"

At that, Shikaku snorted, "Knowing her, she'd have probably sent him on that mission alone, herself."

Yoshino chuckled, "True, true... What about the Academy? A three-week leave seems a bit much." She added as an afterthought.

"When you're Rookie Of The Year, as well as the son of the Jonin Commander and Nara Clan Head, you can take some extended leaves here and there," Shikaku smirked

At that, Yoshino rolled her eyes, "Oh now you decide to use the power of your position... What did you inform the Academy? I assume they did ask the reason for it, and Akira's actual position in the clan is a secret."

"Don't worry about it." Shikaku waved her off.

"Well, if you say so..."

-Morning Time-

-Akira POV-

"Erm... What's all this?" I asked once I arrived at the Kitchen to eat breakfast before I went out to meet with Eiichi at the Village Entrance Gate.

What's - "All this"?

Countless, numerous... Immeasurable amounts of food of varying temperatures, probably cooked one after the other.

And by "Immeasurable" I mean this is probably enough to feed a small family for a couple of days.

"Akira! Quick! Store these in your Shadows before they all get cold!" Auntie ordered with exhaustion evident in her tone and look - All those bags under her eyes, her hands busy with preparing what seemed to be the last bento.

I took a moment to process the goal of these Bentos.

I believe I've arrived at a conclusion but I'll let the Household Banshee take care of the explaining.

I know better than to argue with this Middle Ag- Young Lady.

"Right..." I approach the bentos and begin to shove them into my shadows, shoving the last one just as she is done filling it with Food.

A minute passes by and they are all gone, Auntie with a satisfied smile on her face.

...That was around 25-30 pounds worth of Bento. I estimated according to the weight I felt.

All this food in addition to my "Safe" Equipment would have been impossible to carry for an 8-year-old.

But I'm a Chakra-powered 8-year-old so I'm fine.

My questioning look warranted an explanation from Auntie, "That's your breakfast, lunch, and dinner for your trip! If anything goes wrong - You have Eiichi and some Ryo we gave you just in case." A proud look on her tired face at all the cooking she's been doing.

Wow... She really stayed up all night to cook me 3-weeks' worth of food?

She's quite the worrywart, even by my previous life's standards.

Nevertheless... I'm grateful.

"Auntie... Thank you very much!" I jumped and gave her a hug wrapping my arms around her neck, kissing her cheek.

She chuckled and hugged back, "It's fine! Though I expect Kitchen Duty once you are back to compensate."

...And she ruined it.

I hopped off her and huffed, "Yeah, sure..."

"Excited to see the outside of the Village Akira?" Uncle chimed in, coming out from our backyard with a groggy Shikamaru - Who woke up for the occasion of seeing me off.

I gave Uncle a conflicted nod as a response, quickly transitioning my attention to a more pressing fact.

This is the last bit of Shikamaru suffering I'll bear witness to for 3-weeks, I need to relish in it!

As if he'd read my mind he said, "Finally, a little more peace and quiet in this place."

"I'm peaceful when I need to be!" I countered as they approached.

"Sending an army of Rabbits to force me into training is categorized as being peaceful?" He narrowed his eyes at me

"When I need to be!" I smirked at him, which caused him to roll his eyes.

Ah... I'll miss this, 3 weeks out of my routine and usual lifestyle...

With a tired Auntie and a slightly drowsy Shikamaru in tow, we set off toward the gate to meet Eiichi, my equipment safely stored in my shadows.

Some might say I was overprepared.

But better safe than sorry, right?

On that note...

Be warned... For I have no shame whatsoever.

"Uncle, do you love me?" I meet eyes with Uncle.

His eyes narrow for a moment, but quickly switch to amusement.

Shit, he's too good.

Well... I went too deep into it, I can't abort now.

"Of course, Akira." He smirked

"Would you help me if I were to ask you for it?" I continue

He nods.

"Dad, he's trying to get you into a rhy-" Shikamaru chimed in nonchalantly, but my Shikamaru prevention instincts triggered and I blocked his attempt at interception.

"Shaddup or you get Jeffed!"

"Yes, Sir." He surrendered without a struggle.

Don't ask what getting "Jeffed" is, but I'm proud of how creative that one is trust me.

With my preparations fully set up, I acted.

"Ahem! Dad, can you please tell me now what my mission is? It'll help ease my worries and nerves, I know you can't tell me but it shouldn't hurt to inform me now! I'll be informed in a few hours anyway! I know it's something related to Assassination anyways!" I plead at Uncle, using the critically powerful move of calling him - "Dad".

It's super effective, as his face... Cringes?

Uncle's expression twisted as he let out a sigh. "I'm sorry, Akira, but this is all for your own good. It's crucial for shinobi, especially those specializing in assassination, to be prepared but not to know all the details until the critical moment. The initial mission parameters can often change based on new information or unexpected developments."

"Ah... Killjoy." I shook my head, turning to make my way towards the door.

"I'll admit, that was a rather weak and obvious attempt at getting Dad to compl-" Shikamaru, attempted to violate my impressive attempt, so I shut him up.

"Toa-" I cut him off his sentence, making the shadowgraphic sign for Toad - Only for me to freeze unable to form the sign.

Hmm? I can't move...

"Shadow Possession Jutsu Now Complete." Shikamaru smirked at me.

"I'm afraid, I'm your worst match..." I dove into the shadows and came up behind Shikamaru.

It's time for Kakashi's Signature Move!

Please do note, I haven't seen him in this life... He's as rare as a Shiny Pokemon - By my estimations.

And I am clearly without a Shiny Charm.

"Leaf Village Secret Finger Ju-"

"NO FIGHTING INSIDE KIDS! AKIRA, STOP WASTING CHAKRA YOU'VE GOT A MISSION TO BE AT!" The Household banshee screamed, causing me to jump aside"Elegantly" and appear beside Shikamaru, holding his head between my armpits in a hug.

Wow, the interruptions have been nonstop today huh?

On that note, I'll respond to the banshee.

"Yes, Ma'am!", In reality, there is no better response than this.

If I tried, I'd perish.

"Release me..." Shikamaru choked out, his face turning purple.

"Never..." I whispered in his ear with a wicked grin.

-Scene Change-

The Main Village Gates.

Four on each side of the village walls, corresponding to the four cardinal directions.

The North Gate.

The South Gate.

The West Gate.

And the East Gate.

I'm to meet Eiichi at the East Main Gate.

I arrive before the Iconic gate - One which I've seen multiple times in this life as I explored this giant village, and originally seen through a literal Animated Show.

Carriages filled with Cargo, People of varying statures, ages, and occupations - Some Shinobi, some Merchants, and some civilians.

In the show, the gates didn't seem to have a lot of people flowing in and out - To my past self's initial surprise, this one does.

Simply because this one's the highest traffic one - Where the majority of supplies flow into the village.

The others barely see any traffic, especially the Southern Gate - Also the direction where the Land Of Waves is - One of the nearest, relatively speaking, events I have noted to keep my eye on.

Anyways, the source of the majority of these supplies originates from the fertile lands of the Eastern Land of Fire.

Also from that direction is Konoha's main supplier of Tea and other foreign and rather necessary goods, as well as being Konoha's Number 1 "Customer" - Tea Country. Apparently, they grow some good stuff there - If you know what I mean.

...I do wonder what Chakra-Fuelled Drugs can do.

Ahem!

Logically speaking, it isn't that the Western side of the Land Of Fire is inferior in terms of fertile land.

It's the problem that it is a more vulnerable location to an attack or sabotage from two adjacent Shinobi villages.

Thus, the more important stuff is on the opposite side.

Well, that's enough exposition as I have noticed the old bastard standing like a statue, a few eyes on him in recognition of his mighty "Elder Nara" visage.

Not as impressive as a mighty "Elder Uchiha" visage - May their souls rest in peace, but you know, it is still an impressive sight, Eiichi is a rather well-accomplished individual all things considered. Well-accomplished in being a pain in my ass as well - Second to the relatively recent addition of my sadistic Assassination tutor Makoto.

We approach Eiichi, "I see you've brought your family with you." A stoic tone of voice came out of Eiichi, who arrived earlier than scheduled, just as I did.

"Yup, they are here to wish me luck. On my "Special" Mission." I nod my head as I emphasize the "Special".

"Special indeed." He hummed enigmatically, meeting the eyes of Uncle as he gave him a knowing nod.

How exciting! Chopping off heads!

So fun!

...The least he could fucking do was inform me who'll be my targets.

No innocents. I refuse.

"It's a pleasure to see you all again, Shikamaru-sama, Yoshino-sama and Shikaku-sama. I'll be leaving with Akira now - We'll be wasting daylight with heartfelt goodbyes." He gave a short bow in greeting.

I think the heartfelt goodbye part was directed at Auntie - judging by the seething glare she's directing at Eiichi.

... I know your pain my Elderly Mentor. Mhm.

At that, Eiichi gestured for me to follow him as he walked in the direction of the gate.

I, of course, ignored my Teacher's advice and proceeded to have a "Heartfelt" goodbye.

I smirked at my Family, "Don't worry about me! I'll be doing fine!"

Deep down, I hid my slight nervousness beneath the excitement of the outside world and the chance to express my skills in action.

The nerves were more related to the action department, conflictingly enough.

"Good luck, stay safe." Shikamaru mirrored my smirk.

"You'll do fine, don't worry. Keep a clean head, we're with you even from afar... Just make sure you won't be a drag for Eiichi. He's working too hard for you anyways." Shikamaru added, seeing through my smirk and attempting to pacify my nerves and encourage me, extending his hand for a brotherly handshake.

...He's acting as if Eiichi is the one being dragged through the mud.

"Mhm, Thanks," I replied gratefully and subdued with a twinge of annoyance, nodding as I mirrored his smile, shaking his hand.

"Akira! Don't forget to eat and drink! Make sure to not eat anything other than my Bentos! Or else!" Auntie ordered, a worried mixed with a teasing expression on her face.

"Follow Eiichi's orders and you'll be fine." Shikaku waved me off, a confident smirk on his face.

...It's following Eiichi's orders that got me into this mess - But, whatever, I asked for this. Better get used to this earlier rather than later.

"Alright! Cya in 3-weeks! Don't die of boredom without me!" I waved goodbye and yelled out as I ran ahead to arrive beside Eiichi who was already talking with the Shinobi Guards.

-5 Days Later-

-Night Time-

The outside world is... Disappointing.

It might be because I expected way too much of it.

Living in a big village for your entire life might just cause you to have some grandiose expectations of the world.

But I have seen a little of the world back in my last life - the reason for the disappointment is that the Show gave me some sort of expectation the Land Of Fire will be beautiful, serene, and breathtaking.

Now, don't get me wrong - It was pretty nice and refreshing the first few hours.

...But for fuck's sake, some variety other than roads, trees, and insects would be nice!

So. Many. Fucking. Trees.

I swear The 1st Hokage blew his entire load here and this was the bloody result.

Well, the rivers are quite nice though.

I caught a salmon to feed my senile companion...

What? I had to find an excuse to bring out my new fishing rod!

Also... I fought a comically large bear.

I had to "Call In The Airstrike" to take care of it though.

Never have I had a larger grin on my face after I realized that move was actually effective.

Ahem!

For some variety - we've finally stopped in a small farming town after five days of travel and struggle for survival!

By struggling for survival - I used my completely busted Shadow Inventory to eat "freshly" cooked bentos.

Huzzah for Reincarnation perks!

Praise be to the Ten Shadows!

I blame the Reincarnation Dragon!

"Akira, I'll be relaying the mission specifics... Once you manage to convince them to provide us free lodging." Eiichi sneered as he pointed at the Town's only Inn where we were supposed to spend the night.

...Of course.

And then there's this prick - Don't get me wrong, Eiichi's a bro.

Not this trip though... It seems he's been taking a "Makoto" approach to this mission.

Being annoying, forcing me to convince the guards we come in peace, and to my dismay - not revealing who I'm supposed to "Dispatch".

I've learned to not react, but that doesn't mean I don't get annoyed.

I sighed painfully, "Ah... Give me a minute." I moved to grab the handle leading into the Inn.

I turned to make eye contact with Eiichi, "I'll need you to continue playing along."

He nodded his agreement.

Good, I have a general approach that should work with most people.

...I also have to stay consistent with the impression we made to the town's guards. Just in case.

I whisper to Eiichi, "Here's the plan... Also, grab this stick." I take out a stick I had in my Shadows for occasions to use this trick with Eiichi.

A masterful plan if you ask me.

-Scene Change-

With a creek, the thick wooden door opened, revealing a decently sized open area, a receptionist table, a sofa, and a door leading to what I assume is a kitchen as well as a staircase leading to the upper floors - The much-desired lodging.

As it was nighttime, in a rather remote town - only the receptionist was present.

The first thing I noticed when I got here was oddly the intoxicating smell of Lavender.

Urgh, I like tea as much as the next person but get a grip!

The second thing I noticed was the attractive receptionist.

"Heya~! Welcome!" A bubbly tone of voice escapes the receptionist as she waves her greeting.

"Thank you so much for having us. It's been quite a journey," I replied with genuine gratitude, attempting to establish a connection right from the start.

Oh... Thank god she's not the depressed variant.

They are... Complicated to handle.

Or to convince someone to help you when they barely have an inkling of desire to do their job.

But onto the analysis.

Obviously, when you try and persuade/convince others to help you or do something to your liking, it's best to cater the approach according to the individual you are trying to convince.

Catering your approach depends on what you know of the individual - Since I know literally nothing about this receptionist - I can probe information from what I can see, hear, and or guess.

Appearance - She's young and pretty, about 17-18 years old I'd estimate. Her cascading green hair was smooth and neatly kept. The attire was - light and casual as it hugged her body rather tightly.

From appearance alone - One can infer that she may be inexperienced in the profession, perhaps a new receptionist - her age is a great indicator of both.

Fire Country Labor laws allow people to start working officially only from 14 years old and above.

Shinobi notwithstanding.

Then again, this is a self-sustaining and remote town - No one would care nor enforce such a law, as well as she may or may not be related to the Inn's owner - Which could indicate her having worked here for many many years.

Attitude - She's bubbly and easygoing, also indicated in her clothes. But overall, I cannot ascertain whether this is because she's an excited new worker - or a passionate veteran.

Lots of maybes and no certainties.

Ultimate conclusion - Whoever employs her, knows what the fuck they're doing.

...Yeah, A general approach should be good - I'll make use of Eiichi here.

About him getting recognized? He's no Sannin - I doubt a faraway town's girl would know who he is.

So far no one has recognized him.

And he's more of a local legend in more apt terms.

...Though I could be dead wrong.

Anywho!

Let it commence!

"I'm sorry to trouble you, but this is my grandfather," I gestured toward Eiichi, who played his part by fumbling with his walking stick and appearing a bit confused.

"He's been a bit... forgetful lately, and we've been on the road for days. We were hoping to find a place to rest, but our funds are quite limited. We're willing to pay, of course, but we were wondering if you could help us with a more affordable rate. Maybe even just for the night?"

The key was not to push too hard but to gently nudge her toward the path we desired.

I wore a soft, friendly smile, maintaining eye contact as I approached her, adding, "If you could assist us, we'd be ever so grateful. It's been a tough journey for both of us, and I'm worried about my grandfather's health."

I tried to elicit empathy by appealing to her sense of unity. We were all humans, after all, and showing vulnerability in the form of concern for Eiichi's health was a powerful way to connect with her emotions.

...Also making Eiichi act like a senile old man is funny. I'm surprised he's playing along with me twice in this act.

Being within arm's length, both with my "frail" elderly companion and as a cute 8-year-old, should add some pressure due to our close proximity.

But now... For her response.

Her bubbly expression twisted as she now observed Eiichi with a sympathetic gaze, taking in his apparent frailty and aloof figure, She offered a sympathetic smile to our plea.

"Oh, I see. Poor thing," she replied, her empathy shining through.

"Traveling can be quite exhausting, especially for someone of his age, not to mention the Bandits roaming around." She added, a saddened expression on her face as she internalized our troubles.

Now I just feel bad... But I must persevere!

Also... Bandits. This is the second time I've heard of them today - Particularly making the entrance into town a bit troublesome.

I mean... Why would you be suspicious of an 8-year-old kid and his fossil-aged grandfather?

...Don't answer that.

I nodded, grateful for her understanding, and pressed on with our request. "Exactly, it's been tough. We're really hoping for a place to rest for the night. If you could help us with an affordable rate or perhaps even just one night's stay, we'd greatly appreciate it."

At that, the receptionist leaned in closer, lowering her voice as if sharing a secret, "I'm not supposed to do this, but I can offer you a deal. Since you've both been through so much, how about this - You can stay the night for free. But, please, don't tell anyone. It's our little secret. Room 41 - Up the stairs second floor to the left." She handed me our room's key.

Milady, I could kiss you.

Of course, I didn't say that.

My eyes widened slightly in gratitude as I whispered back, "Thank you so much. We won't breathe a word about it. You're a lifesaver, really."

She winked at us, assuring her discretion, "Just promise you'll get some good rest. And let me know if you need anything else. You're a brave and talented boy, to take care of your grandfather alone at such an age is amazing!" Praising me in the end and ruffling my hair.

Scratch that. Marry you.

Eiichi! Get the documents!

Of course, I didn't say that either.

As I prepared to leave for our room, the receptionist introduced herself, "By the way, my name's Emi Mori. If you need anything during your stay, don't hesitate to ask."

I smiled and extended my hand, introducing both Eiichi and myself, "I'm Akira, and this is my grandfather, Eiichi. Thank you so much, Emi-san. You've been incredibly kind to us."

Taking care not to add our surname - Nara is well known, and Shinobi's presence shouldn't be announced unless necessary.

We exchanged pleasantries, and Emi Mori bid us good night and explained some basic stuff like where we could take a bath and when breakfast was served.

We proceeded to follow her directions and head towards our room on the second floor.

-Scene Change-

"Ah... This would all of been easier if you taught me some Genjutsu or even Henge." I complain to Eiichi who is currently writing something in his "Akira Report" as he sits on his futon.

It's not a damn secret they keep notes on me.

...Though I am curious about what they write in there.

His eyes lifted from his notes for a moment as he responded, "Boy, you know why we don't instruct you on those quite yet."

I rolled my eyes, "Yeah, yeah: "Master The Basics Prior To Utilizing Shortcuts." Rigid if you ask me."

"Your naive and foolish opinions are duly noted," Eiicihi replied without a hint of acknowledgment.

"So... What's my mission? You've kept me hanging for way too long." I narrow my eyes at Eiichi.

At that, his notebook was snapped shut, as he placed it along with his pencil inside his storage scroll.

Pfft, storage scroll needing peasant.

My amusement was put to a stop when his eyes met mine, and suddenly a serious air enveloped me and the room.

"As you have guessed, your mission will involve Assassination." Eiichi dropped the expected bombshell.

I nodded slowly, "Yeah, I figured... Anything else?"

...Please not innocent people.

"Yes, there have been reports of bandits raiding towns that refused to pay their so-called "protection fees." Your mission is straightforward: get rid of them. However, it's important to avoid using excessive force. I'll be keeping a close eye on this mission. Your task, for your own growth and safety, is to quietly eliminate them all. The main goal is to deal with them swiftly and silently, without causing any retaliation or resistance. A quick and stealthy victory that showcases the essence of what an assassin should be. Additionally, it's up to you to gather information on who these bandits are, where to find them, and the best approach to deal with them. I'm here solely as an observer, so remember that." Eiichi went on a complete lecture as to what my mission is and what I need to accomplish.

I took a few moments to process this information.

Bandits, I see...

However, there is one thing that's bothering me.

"Where's the client who hired Shinobi for this mission?" I asked, my tone expressing genuine curiosity.

Eiichi's lips formed a small smile as he replied, "You've got a sharp eye. There's no client involved in this case. Collaborating with a client and getting specific mission directives will come in your next ventures. As for this mission, it's my own idea. I've been hearing unsettling stories about bandits causing trouble in this region, and I thought it was a good chance to tackle the problem while giving you some experience. You might be wondering why the local folks haven't requested help despite the bandit issue. Well, the answer is simple - hiring Shinobi is expensive. This mission would be classified as a C-Rank, and it's costly for people who earn their living from farming and such, this is even more so for an area of the country that is known to be self-sufficient and only keeps up with country tax by trading goods."

...Where does he even find these rumors in the first place?

I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if he's got some kind of convoluted information network he taps into whenever convenient.

"Hmm, I'm guessing the police force of Fire Country can't be bothered with this problem?" I questioned after processing what he told me.

So much for paying country tax when the country doesn't even bother providing you protection.

They can't send you protection - but they can send you the accursed Tax Man.

...If I were them I'd commit the most devious of Tax Frauds.

"More or less, don't dig too deep into it Akira - For the most part as a Shinobi of the Leaf, the machinations behind a mission should be something the Hokage has to worry about. Your job is to obey and complete the mission." Eiichi shook his head, uninterested in elaborating further.

Well, if Eiichi says it's not my job to worry about it - then it isn't my job to worry about it.

As long as it isn't related to the killing of innocents, I'll go with the flow for now.

First of all though...

"I'm guessing this is the area where the Bandits are supposed to be roaming around and causing trouble? From here it's up to me to figure out where they are and eliminate them." I narrowed my eyes at my Teacher.

"Yes, that's what I told you before. The towns that are beyond this one more towards the east are affected by this Bandit Issue. From here, it's your job to figure this out."

I sigh and respond tiredly, "...Good, sounds like a problem for tomorrow Morning's Akira. Today's Akira is going to sleep."

Eiichi snorted, "Hmph, I suppose it is."

-Time Skip-

-The Next Day-

It was the morning of the next day, after eating breakfast with the other eight guests in the Inn - Which is a small number by the way - I approached Emi Mori and began questioning her, with her agreement of course

"...And just how long were these Bandits in the area?" I asked with a sweatdrop, as I questioned our beloved receptionist Emi Mori - Who was very compliant with the questioning.

Probably worrying about our safety.

She sighed painfully, "For around two months... Luckily they haven't gone around to ransacking our town or asking for protection fees."

I asked with a relieved smile, "Do you think there's a reason why? Do they not stray far from a certain area? Or is this small town just not worth the effort?"

At that, her face expressed sheer effort as she thought hard, "Erm... I-I think it's because they don't stray far from a certain area, the nearest town to here is a two-day travel. We are pretty isolated so it seems to be not worth the effort... I think" She gave me a goofy smile at the end.

She's very charming. Eiichi! Prepar-

Focus Akira! Don't!

"If you'd be so kind, could you please mark the area where these bandits were sighted in? Order of appearance would also be preferable." I pulled out the map I had bought from one of the guests.

Money talks.

Emi nodded as she marked the towns and roads eastwards from here, only marking two areas by their order of appearance, whilst the rest were simply marked as a place of sighting, "Sorry, I only remember these two as they were the latest incidents."

"When was the last incident?" I continued

"About a week ago. Rumors travel slowly - there might have been an incident recently that we haven't heard about yet." She tilted her head in thought.

"What was the delay between the last two incidents? I mean - How long did it ta-" I continued only to be interrupted by her nodding

"I understand what you mean, it's a month between the two incidents and sightings. The second to last incident was ransacking due to the town's people lacking the Ryo to pay them, the last incident from the last town decided to pay." She explained.

Does a month's worth of payment and or ransacking enough to feed the Bandits and cause them to take a rest? What motivates their actions?

...I can't make a solid conclusion from just this much - I can only guess the attacks and or "Payments" have a month's delay. One example though isn't nearly enough.

Guess I'll have to go to the victims and check it out.

Brute forcing finding the bandits with Noc and Mir isn't a good plan until I have a more concentrated area to search for them. The current area is way too large for their detection range.

I smiled gratefully at Emi, "Thank you very much Emi-san, your kindness knows no bounds." I bowed respectfully to the kind and attractive lady.

At that, she smiled with warmth as she ruffled my spiky hair, "Don't worry about it - As long as I can help you two avoid the bandits I'm happy. You are heading eastward, right?"

"Yeah, we have relatives in Tea Country - We're heading there." I lied easily

A worried frown on her face as she met my eyes with her azure blue eyes, "You are heading out now aren't you?"

I nodded

At that her frown expressed genuine worry, "Please be careful both of you." She proceeded to hug me, chocking me with her ample bosso-

"HMPHH" I choke out as she releases me upon noticing me getting choked.

"Haha! Sorry~" She giggles at me being at a loss of breath, letting me go from her unprompted chokehold.

I lift a hand and dismiss her apology.

After all, I should be grateful.

"Well, we're heading out - Thanks a lot. For everything. We won't forget this." I met eyes with her once again, nodding in gratitude.

She simply smiled warmly and waved goodbye as I headed towards my "Aloof" Grandfather who was drinking some lavender tea.

As I approached he asked without looking at me, "Any conclusive information?" Proceeding to take a sip of his tea.

My face expressed the utmost earnestness as I stated, "Countryside girls are the best."

Causing him to spit his tea.

What? I'm not wrong! The proof is right there!

-2 Days Later-

After our short-term stay in Lavender Town and meeting with the rather endearing Emi Mori.

Yes, that's the town's name. A nostalgic name for a former Pokemon Player.

Ah, I miss video games.

Ahem!

Anyway, I've been asking around the same town and the information was not much different, however, I have learned when the last four appearances were.

And my assumption was more or less correct - there is a 2-5 week delay between each major encounter with the bandits.

There are, of course, sightings here and there but nothing major that would count as an incident.

I assume the reason these delays are so varied in time is due to how much they manage to "Ransack" or get paid.

Most of the time people lack the payment they require so they simply plunder the villages.

In terms of the specific choices of the towns they decide to raid - there is no pattern to it, at least, one that I can specify.

I lack information on that front.

Hopefully, I can learn more once I reach one of the victims of the latest Ransacking.

On that note, we've arrived in the nearest town and the second to last victim of the bandits.

By victims I mean these ones didn't decide to pay whilst the latest did.

Mizugawa Town.

A small fishing town that sustains itself through fishing in the freshwater river that is adjacent to it as well as trading goods made from the catch.

First of all, there are no guards.

Secondly, all the houses seem fine. There are traces of a few burnt houses - but it seems the town is perfectly intact.

Here, someone's approaching us - "You don't look like bandits to me." An older man with a stereotypical fisherman look said bluntly.

I smiled, "No, we aren't. We heard bandits raided this town in the direction of where we are headed, so we'd like to learn about these bandits so we can avoid them in our travels."

"Bah, sure did. Clever bastards always take just enough for themselves, and keep enough for us to stay afloat. So they can come back and ask for payment when we've recuperated - the bastards. Protection fee my arse!" The Fisherman complained

Hmm?

The confusion must have been telling as the fisherman narrowed his eyes at me and asked impatiently, "What's with yer face?"

I fixed my expression to a placating smile and added, "Oh, sorry! I'm just curious as to why you haven't decided to leave."

At that, the fisherman's face formed a resolute expression, "I've lived here since I was a blubbering whippersnapper, I don't know what other place to go. We've sent messengers along with information to the Capital and the nearest Fire Country Police Station - The Police Station ignored us, the arrogant and entitled bastards - The messenger sent to the capital has yet to bring us good news. It's not too bad, boy. The Bandits thankfully have a trace of honor in em, they have not killed anyone unless those that threatened their lives or taken too much. So if we must endure and work a lil harder for a while until help arrives it's fine."

As I took a moment to digest the Fisherman's words he cut me out of my thoughts, "Sorry, we can't afford to feed the both of ya, if you want to stay you'll have to work."

"Oh, don't worry, we're just passing by - If you have the time, could you mark the area I should avoid in case the Bandits appear?" I requested as I pulled out the map of the nearby area.

"I'll agree to it if ya can pay - I have no time to waste ya kno-" His statement was interrupted by the feeling of Ryo bills on his hands.

...Behold the power of money!

My quick response surprised him, only for him to blink twice and take a look at my still-smiling face.

He took a moment to regain his composure muttering, "A rich kid huh."

Rich is a subjective term, my fish-loving friend.

Compared to the silent bastard beside me, whose net worth could buy this town and the surrounding areas multiple times over, I own practical pocket change.

"Fine, give me that thing." The fisherman grabbed the map and began marking the areas in addition to what was already marked there.

As Eiichi and I were patiently awaiting the fisherman to complete his marking our attention was taken away by a new figure.

"Saito-san! We've got some fish to dry! Who's the old man and the shrimp?" A boisterous young boy who seems to be 13 years old arrived beside the Fisherman - now named Saito.

Shrimp, that's a new one.

"We're just travelers passing by, we stopped by this town to gather information in regards to where the bandits that have been plaguing this area usually roam around, so my grandfather and I could avoid them." I kept the smile on my face, not a hint of irritation on my expression - an improvement I would say.

I would normally retort - but I'll stay professional.

For now.

At my words, the boy narrowed his eyes at Saito, "I hope you aren't doing this for free." Pointing at the map Saito is currently marking.

"Of course not brat, they paid well." Saito snorted

The boy formed a relieved smile, "Good. Well, I'll go do it on my own for now, join me when you are done, old man!"

And... He ran off.

A minute passes by and Saito hands over the map, multiple areas marked.

"I'd avoid these areas - These are the known spots those thieves were seen and encountered, it's valid information we gathered from communicating between the towns who are their victims," Saito added

I took a look at the map and an inkling as to the methods of these bandits formed in my head.

I'll have to ask around to confirm.

I smiled gratefully, "Thank you Saito-san. If you guys don't mind we'll be going around town asking about the bandits."

He snorted, "As long as ya keep out of trouble and they agree to respond to your questions do whatever ya want."

...They sure are greedy assholes - If I lacked the funds this would have been frustrating.

Though can I blame them? Getting ransacked by a bunch of bandits and put into a rough spot would normally force you into a more self-interested attitude.

Nevertheless, permission was granted and I went around the tiny fishing town and asked the locals questions about the bandits - their behavior, their equipment, their methods, and so on.

Whatever they knew.

-Evening Time-

As I walked the streets with Eiichi's company, I munched on a fish skewer I bought for extremely cheap from the locals.

An expression of pure bliss on my face, "Ah, so good!"

"Of course, it's freshly caught and cooked," Eiichi stated the obvious

I rolled my eyes at his one-dimensional statement.

Onto more important matters.

After questioning and collecting information from the locals I have reached a theory on these bandits.

These Bandits were exhibiting ganglike behavior.

They have a code of honor twisted as it may be.

A territory they "Guard" that they don't stray from.

A price to pay for "Protection". A really pointless prospect - they have no need for protection from anything.

And a punishment to those in the territory failing to do so.

They've chosen a great spot to set up such a farce - no one can hire Shinobi and perhaps through connections with the Fire Country Government or maybe through intimate knowledge of how unprofessional and lax the Police force is they understood that they are practically safe.

Suffice it to say - these bandits are smart.

Setting up something like this would normally be impossible given the existence of Shinobi.

These are simple bandits as far as I could tell.

And by Eiichi's own admission - this is a C-Rank mission, there is no way they make use of Chakra or Jutsu.

Combat against other Shinobi is problematic given my position and relative strength at the moment.

However, despite their presumed smarts - This works in my favor.

Confirmed months, perhaps years have gone by and these Bandits have been succeeding in their control of this remote and poor area.

These consecutive successes and peaceful times as well as no proper response from authorities or hiring of Shinobi are likely to lower their guard and bloat their ego.

A perfect situation for me to come in.

As I munched on my fish skewer, Eiichi noticed my enlightened figure, "Figured something out?"

With a gulp, I smirked at him confidently, "We'll be about done with this tomorrow."

Eiichi hummed at my statement, "We shall see."

...I just hope my confidence won't be just for show

Granted... it already is - I'm not too excited about killing a fellow man.

Thankfully, they aren't all too innocent.

To Be Continued!

-Author Note Start-

Hey guys, sorry for the late chapter - I had an emergency and most of the time I can write EFFECTIVELY is during the weekends which is when it happened.

I'll try to write another chapter after this one as soon as I can beyond the normal schedule to compensate.

Though writing has been a bit hard I'll admit - hopefully the quality wasn't damaged.

I hope this chapter was to your satisfaction despite the wait - I don't think this chapter was worth a 14-day wait but I thank you for your patience nevertheless!

Anyways...

This chapter, I'll admit was void of action and very boring and slice-of-lifeish - its purpose is to showcase how Akira approaches and handles missions as well as showcasing his overall "Social Skills" acting persuasion etc... the more technical side of Missions aside from you know - beating the opponent unconscious xd.

Next chapter though... Expect Action. A lot of it. Yup. A LOT of it. That is all I'm saying.

As always people! If you see any inconsistencies, wrong information, Illogical statements etc... Notify me, please! I'll fix it ASAP! And or explain it later on in case I had planned to make it vague in the first place.

Also, all comments, reviews, constructive criticism and so on Are much appreciated! I especially love Constructive criticism because it allows me to improve the story in real time! I try my best to follow your advice!

I enjoy responding to you all! So do send them comments! Also, ideas are also welcome! I'm not that creative so assistance from you guys is always nice! Yup!

I hope you lovely people have a fantastic rest of the day/week. And I'll see you in a week's time or so :P

Honey never spoils. Archaeologists have even found pots of honey in ancient Egyptian tombs that are over 3,000 years old and still perfectly edible. Here's this week's random fact.
